I wanted to thank you guys for this review because I was researching 2 handed falchion providers and couldn’t find many until I saw this video and then immediately went to Facebook to find Sterling armory. I’ve successfully messaged Chris and he agreed to make me one of these falchions (with red grip instead of green). I’m extremely happy and I find it coincidental that you guys just made this review over the past 6 days right as I happened to be looking for this sort of blade. Chris even said they don’t usually do commissions but he has wanted to make another of these anyways so I got lucky messaging him on Facebook.

Clearly the universe has spoken. You are meant to have that sword. And it's going to look awesome in red! Congratulations, and I'm glad it all came together.

Would you say a POB of 2.25" is an improvement over 4" on this sword? Great review btw, lively.

Damn... and to think it could have been mine for the low, low price of my life... It would've worth it 🤘💀 and an honour to be cut down with. (my fiancée would've kill me lol) Really impressive cutter! Getting like 3 or 4 cuts out of one of those little bottles is really difficult, but Jon made it look easy. Sterling armory never fails to impress! Definitely on the list. I have about 5000$ to spend on swords, that don't have to spend on swords on my list lol Gus Trim Albion Valiant Sterling And it goes on and on lmao

Thank you! Thank you for saying it 9:34, since I was thinking it from the start! The women in your lives have waaaaaaaay too much fun swinging sharp blades around. When cutting, you guys are serious with an eye on the prize, while they giggle in joy as they slice everything in sight. I mean, I'm happy for them, but that's terrifying! 😅 Stay safe guys! Maybe review a boring, dull sword next? Borrow and cut with a (sharp) Deepeeka arming sword, then compare it to a Tod sword and an ATrim one. For your own good. 😇

I can say Sterling Armory is absolutely worth it. I have a two handed falchion very similar to yours (picked it up February 2023) that has a blue grip. I did some tatami cutting with it and was blown away how well it did (even with my meh skills). I am always keeping an eye out for a XVIa or XIIa from Sterling, as those are pretty rare typologies they do.

Awesome awesome review lads, for a great sword! Chris continues to impress with his beautiful production and functionality of his swords. I really must get my hands on a sterling armory sword soon. :) You guys are correct that we don’t know of any surviving 2 handed “Falchion” in the strictest sense. There are some “longswords” which have single edges, and there is the type 3c Cordoba Falchion which has a rather long grip despite a normal size blade. Nothing quite like those depicted in art…yet!

Jon said this is a big one, lol, this is actually the smaller version of this style. We have a 34" blade version as well that i do from time to time. Yes each piece is one of a kind, but I have about 20ish blade designs that I created from historical examples and I tend to pull from those. I think Kyle grabbed the larger version for someone else at socal. But i personally like the 30" one. I am tweaking the blade design on the 34" one so it will look a tad different than before, and we have our 35" one of a different blade typology all together, that was the one Gus held that Colton made. Great review! Were you able to do any mat cutting?
@UnsheathedSwordReviews6 күн бұрын
Thanks! Yeah Kyle grabbed the Blue one and did a great review on it, I shared it in our description. I honestly would have gone for that one if it didn't get taken so quickly. But I'm very happy with the one I ended up getting. Haven't had a chance to cut any mats yet. Jon just finished building our stand as I was finishing up the edit. We need to buy mats and try them out. This sword will be one of the firsts I take to a mat though. And I'm sure I will be the problem and not the sword 😂

I love Sterling but for the same price you can get Valiant which has a higher fit and finish, completely in line with Albion. Also with a Valiant you get a production sword which means not unique but it also means you can see or read a review or handle a buddies sword or a sword at a con and order the exact same sword and know in advance exactly what you are getting. Your review of this sword is great, but I will never find that exact sword for sale from Sterling for myself. Also would love some stats on the swords you review, you touched on weight and tapper but POB and length would be great. Maybe put it all in a quick "technical" section.
@UnsheathedSwordReviews6 күн бұрын
I absolutely love Albion and Valiant Armory. And you're right, since they produce actual models it's much easier to get a good idea of what to expect from each sword. But with Sterling Armory I very much like the idea of having what is basically a one of a kind piece. This review wasn't to try and sell this sword so much as it was about showcasing the level of work Sterling Armory is capable of. I definitely don't think you can go wrong with them. That said I own several Albions and VA swords so I think they are fantastic options also. In our earliest videos we listed and read off all the specs of each sword in question. We found it kinda bogged down the flow of the reviews. So now we just mention what comes up naturally in the review. But the full specs for every sword can be seen by clicking the description of the video. Appreciate the feedback! Thanks for watching!

@@UnsheathedSwordReviews Thanks I see the stats now. Blade length of only 30 inches on a two handed sword, may well go along way to explaining the great handling. I tend to find that shorter blades get better handling while keeping up blade stiffness, at the expense of reach.
@UnsheathedSwordReviews6 күн бұрын
Yeah I think that's definitely the case here. Really explains why it's so wieldable in one hand. It's really kind of a hand and a half falchion, which I think is really cool.

I got the Spit many years ago. But then I got the Diphos with satin finish and brown leather, I love it so much. I saw a youtuber review from a few years ago with it set up like that and it just screamed "Conan" and I had to have it. Which then made me get the Sharkalope, the Rat Bastard, the Scyllis, the Kraken, and one of the katanas. I've cut myself off now from get anything else because my wallet is crying some.

What is your take on the edges, now that you have had several in hand? Given that they're outsourced, possibly to India, I have been concerned that they might be like Windlass swords sharpened by Kult of Athena with big secondary bevels. Sounds like that is not the case, but I don't think you've commented explicitly the edge geometry, other than it needs more honing, which Tod's website is upfront about. I'd really like one of his Castillions, but I've been holding out to learn more about the edges.
@UnsheathedSwordReviewsАй бұрын
So Tod has confirmed that they are outsourced to a forge in Indiana. He also stated specifically that it's not Windlass. To my knowledge if you want to ship a sharp sword out of India it requires a different and more expensive license. So Windlass makes most of their swords unsharpened and pretty blunt. Then KOA puts a secondary bevel on the sword because it's easier than reprofiling the edge bevel. The Tod Cutler swords are actually made sharp if you order them as such. All 4 swords I've seen have had the proper edge profile for that specific sword type with no secondary bevel. They are what I'd consider functionally sharp. If I run my finger along the edge they'd cut me. And I suspect they would do real damage to if swung against someone In earnest back in the medieval period. That said, how sharp you want your sword is really kind of a matter of preference. It depends on what kind of target you're going to cut. Out of the box all of them have been able to go outside and cut water bottles straight away. Though there's definitely some tearing if your edge alignment isn't on point. Getting the edges honed to shaving sharp would be pretty easy if you knew how to do it. Or if you took it to someone to have it professionally done as I have with the Messer. But out of the box I think they are pretty serviceably sharp. Maybe a bit sharper than your average Albion. But less sharp than an Angus Trim or VA sword. Hope that was helpful, thanks for watching!
