My dad was the radio operator in ww 2. 6 months on the ship then 6 months on a pay. He did that for the duration of the war. They were in the Atlantic.

My Dad was on the Callaway when kamakazes struck. He was wounded 13 times and really never recovered emotionally after seeing his fellow crew afire. He never spoke about it.. He did become a lawyer and Judge and lived with terrible PTSD dying at 45 years old. God Bless these soldiers and sailors who so bravely fought for our country.

That company commander can’t shoot. He has no qualification ribbons for pistol or rifle. He’s the guy they left on shore, guaranteed.

Back in tye 1960s, we "coasties" had a saying about our situation..... " YOU HAVE TO GO OUT, BUT YOU DON'T HAVE TO COME BACK " After time in Cat Lo, 5 ocean stations, 2 Arctic East trips, and 2 Antarctic excursions.....it was a very appropriate slogan.

Before I joined the Army in 2007, I was a member of the USCG Aux. While I was in Afghanistan with the Army, the Coast Guard had to go through our equipment & personal property for shipping back to the States, so I was familiar with their rank insignia. It was all senior NCOs and Officers processing us. There were so few Coasties deployed, that I assume lower ranks were denied the opportunity to deploy. Rank has privilege. The attitudes of the American public in supporting the Vietnam war wasn’t the same as for the GWOT, so lower ranks had more chance to serve during the Vietnam War.

Instead of giving them the safest, most state-of-the-art boats, shouldn't they give them the crapiest, most dangerous boats they can so that they face the kinds of situations they will actually encounter on the job?

People don't realize that the hardest part about SAR (Search and Rescue) for the Aircrews is just what they have shown. Not being able to find the survivor/survivors especially after hot intel is absolutely draining physically and emotionally.

Everyone missed what caused it's center fuel tank to explode. It's very simple to explain. When the planes air conditioner heated the center tank and when it reached a specific altitude she exploded from dieseling as the center tank reached either a positive or vacuum pressure of 32 psi. No spark is required for a tank to deseil explode. This pressure could have built up from a damaged pressure relief valve vent or a filling cap seal failing.
