why does everyone paint things, powdercoat it so it'll actually be worth your time. im over people painting frames to try & make it look nice to sell then wears off in one good ride lol
@WeekendAdventureRides
@WeekendAdventureRides 21 күн бұрын
You are not wrong. It's more about what you have available and what you can afford. In a perfect world, powdercoating is the correct option. I'm in the process of putting together a powder coating set up and posting videos on that process.

I've been in a weird place for a while on forwards. I've wanted them but couldn't see paying the "Harley fee" for oem co tools, but also have been burned by the Amazon knock-offs in the past. This video was perfect and I did as you suggested, through a combination of recycling the hardware from the mids and bought some bits at the hardware store. Drenched in loctite and torqued gingerly.

I have to disagree, it’s not a “modern” look. The sporty brow has been around for 40 years. It looks badass on an extended 35mm narrow glide front end on a shovel or a sportster.

@@WeekendAdventureRides I mean there’s no wright or wrong answer lol, I wasn’t trying to come off like db, I just happen to be a fan of the stock xl visor is all. I love the AMF years, ugly mag wheels, crazy frank fenders, unsightly disc brakes ect. I can appreciate what you do as I’ve been fabricating for a living for the last 25 yrs and riding bikes for even longer. Knocked out a few custom headlight mounts in the past myself. My next build I was actually thinking of fabbing my own xl visor from scratch with some dimpled holes on each purchase area. Anyways, now I’m rambling on. 🤙

I did a Hybrid of this. I bought the TCMT. Any part in the kit that did not meet muster I placed aside and ordered the HD Part on Ebay. Once I got my parts to satisfaction I changed my Mids out and installed the Forward Controls. I then sold all the parts individually on Ebay and made my money back for the entire cost of changing them out. The Foot Rest Mounts seemed to be the weakest and like Pot Metal so they had to go. Certain bolts did not pass muster as well. I also went with an After Market Shift Rod that was superior to both TCMT and HD OEM. After Market Heel Toe Shifter and Brake Pedal was exchanged for TCMT or HD OEM versions. It was nice I broke even as the parts are in demand on Ebay.

Yes, that's going to be an issue with the minimal support. May improve with some gusseting on the back of the mount.

Reassembling my xr250 I spent an hour digging thru drawers, checking bags of parts and crawling around on the floor, sweeping out the garage, checking the driveway, looking for the missing WRIST PIN BEARING!!!ARGH! I finally gave up when it got dark, super angry with myself for somehow losing this critical part.....and then went to try to order one.... lol. You may or may not realize that the problem is.... 4 strokes dont use wrist pin bearings.

Oh, and quick tip for welding: grind a chamfer into the pieces to be welded if it’s gonna be a butt joint. This creates a 'bed' for the welding rod to fill in and increase the stability of the piece dramatically since you don’t just tack the outside of the plate together but fully fill it with material, making it almost like a solid plate. (Hope you got what I mean, my English isn’t perfect…)

For cutting out the square hole in the bracket, you could also use a jig saw with a metal blade, some cutting oil and slow cutting speed. Nice build though!
