I did a Hybrid of this. I bought the TCMT. Any part in the kit that did not meet muster I placed aside and ordered the HD Part on Ebay. Once I got my parts to satisfaction I changed my Mids out and installed the Forward Controls. I then sold all the parts individually on Ebay and made my money back for the entire cost of changing them out. The Foot Rest Mounts seemed to be the weakest and like Pot Metal so they had to go. Certain bolts did not pass muster as well. I also went with an After Market Shift Rod that was superior to both TCMT and HD OEM. After Market Heel Toe Shifter and Brake Pedal was exchanged for TCMT or HD OEM versions. It was nice I broke even as the parts are in demand on Ebay.

I've been in a weird place for a while on forwards. I've wanted them but couldn't see paying the "Harley fee" for oem co tools, but also have been burned by the Amazon knock-offs in the past. This video was perfect and I did as you suggested, through a combination of recycling the hardware from the mids and bought some bits at the hardware store. Drenched in loctite and torqued gingerly.
@mamjack61343 ай бұрын
Only did a store and back for test ride, but can already see you'll have more wiggle room on long rides. Don't have to hunt for neutral anymore!! Shifts smoother , brake seems a bit stiff but probably the different foot position. Definitely putting my old MX pegs on.

Great video. I installed mine today. 04 sporty. Only thing id say is it qould have been great if youd slowed down a lite and showed some close ups of the way the pieces went together. I had a little trouble following and had to pause frequently. First ride today with my aliexpress forwards and they seem pretty darn good! Much better riding position for 6"3' me.

Also, mine don't flex one bit. I'm not sure why yours do!

i got this same set on mine and honestly it does good just make sure to check the bolts that come with the kit regularly cause they love to come loose even with loctite i had one fall off on my shift linkage while riding lost the ability to shift and replaced the main bolts for shifting with some lowes specials and havent had a issue since

How have the forwards held up?
@HemiRoyTevis5 ай бұрын
I have a 2006 Harley Davidson sportster that I just installed forward controls and the break side wouldn’t work with the exhaust that I have on the bike so I had to buy a extended bracket to make it work
@WeekendAdventureRides5 ай бұрын
Theres a video about it on my channel links to product will be in description. It's a product off ebay.
@SubWaySpiderman Жыл бұрын
As for the flex considering they are forward controls, they shouldn’t be taking that much weight other than resting your feet on them. They might bend or snap if you drop the bike but if you’re worried about that you’ll probably have a crash guard already installed.
@WeekendAdventureRides Жыл бұрын
No crash guard, gonna run them and see how it goes.

When I bought mine, I wasn’t able to put the brake part on. It always had the break engaged, no matter what.
@WeekendAdventureRides8 ай бұрын
That's strange, could you send me some pictures? The brake should B pushing the pedal back up. I'm guessing something not quite right
@garryeuler91736 ай бұрын
brake rod won’t work then you may have mount on wrong side… That happened to me …it’s a lot of work but put that mount on other side use the other side for your brake my!!! If they would just mark the mounts left a right that would be a huge help!!!Time saver for sure!

I got some of these Amazon fwd controls and they just seem loose fitting. They are tight all the way. Is there a way to make them fit better?
@WeekendAdventureRides Жыл бұрын
@finneyman the brackets themselves are tight and have no issue. The spring washers to keep the footpegs tight are super cheap so I will be getting some that are better quality and that should make them fit tighter.
@finneyman Жыл бұрын
@@WeekendAdventureRides the brackets seem ok on mine it’s the moving parts on both sides that rattle around. Not the foot peg but the brake lever and shifter parts rattle around
@WeekendAdventureRides Жыл бұрын
@@finneyman I don't seem to have that problem. You may look at the linkage to see if it's set correctly

Just moving the shifter flexed the entire bracket.. the Bracket needs to be steel.

I have a similar chinese knockoff forward controls, they flex but so far they haven't broke yet, i have let fall the bike a couple times but they are still there, I'm gonna change them into the original oem brackets and footpegs brackets because I'm a scary little cat XD they did their job but it's time to go.

How did they hold up after a few rides? Installing mine soon!
@WeekendAdventureRides Жыл бұрын
I only rode 1 time with the. I live in a very cold and snowy part of the country. I'm not disappointed with them for the price. The only issue I have with them is the spring washer that keeps tension on the peg. I would replace these with better quality ones.

steel is cheap af... no reason HD should be charging that much for those parts.... it's same for a lot of simple steel motorcycle parts... but I guess that's the cost of made in america...?

@mark-xc5ms9 ай бұрын
You could almost use the OEM brackets for the mid controls, except for the fact that the mounting holes are spaced different! I think the factory did that on purpose!
@MaaZeus4 ай бұрын
Steel as a raw materisl is cheap but harder to work with if you want it to be strong. You cannot really cast it and expect it to be strong, it will be too porous for use. You have to smith it into shape, harden and temper it etc. Aluminum on the other hand is very easy to work with, can be casted and milled easily, doesn't have to be tempered etc.

Did you have a question?
@exexpat116 ай бұрын
It is not that complex. Even I could do it and I am not mechanically inclined. If you can identify the part you can find the hole it matches up with and goes in.
