Love the B trans on the bench. I looked into Miata's trans when at Kessler's old shop and said NOPE, I'll stick the Honda's Shipping to me from Cali has been super fast, even during the fires. Ordered a 5th gear from Kiwi in Friday afternoon, and I had it by Monday.. USPS Priority at that. Synchrotech is generally the same way if I order before 4 pm EST. OEM LSD it appears. Love the shop videos, -Bone

I like it ok however my preference is race tech. Not sure I'll change it anytime soon though.

Talking about transmissions. I occasionally rebuild Subaru manual transmissions. Looks like I'm going to get out of my comfort zone for a little while. Going to help a friend with a 1995 MR2 transmission. He's needing help to fit a LSD and reassemble the transmission.

The chop saw is a good idea. Typically, I use an angle grinder with a .040 cutting wheel. It is a little more difficult to get a straight cut. To address the fraying I grind the outside of the frayed end at 45 degrees with the side of the cutting wheel before removing the tape. Makes it easier to insert the hose in the fitting.

What about PTFE lined hose for fuel and oil. Rubber will seep fumes whereas the PTFE/Teflon won’t. Wouldn’t need to change them either. Great video though. Easy to follow and informative.
@JessePrather-e1sАй бұрын
I don't think PTFE in 6an or larger would bend very easily but maybe! Didn't know they made that either.
@silver33vspecАй бұрын
@@JessePrather-e1sI have -10 on an oil filter relocation setup for my car… no, it’s not ideal for bending tight corners but there is some flex in it and doesn’t give off any oil/fuel vapour smell that’s prone with the rubber hose.

Nice explanation, especially on cutting hose. Two details from my experience/how I was taught, I clean my hoses after cutting to ensure the sealing surfaces aren't contaminated snd then again after assembly and second I only recently started using aluminum wrenches meant for fittings. I like them because they are virtually zero risk of maring the anodizing finish on the fittings. No matter how careful I am using steel wrenches I'll always mar one and its of course one that is most visible!

Great info, well presented. Thanks!

What's your opinion of the Nylon braided hose with the steel braided inner layer? I have used it before on my fuel lines and have been happy with it. I replaced mine at the beginning of the year as the old ones had been on for a while. I have found it's not a weight thing for me but they are much more flexible.
@JessePrather-e1sАй бұрын
I can't say I've ever used that to be honest.

I do it mostly the same way,but one thing I found is I put a spud bar down the nut after the hose is inserted into it. Kinda helps not catch an edge as the fitting is inserted and seats the hose a tad.

Wish you would have had this video available around 5 years ago when I did this to my car! But I got it done with a lot of extra effort. You covered all the details I was going to ask, wise advise on the swivel head fittings. An extra data point to emphases what you said about the "push on" style, several years ago whilst at an endurance race, the car in the pits next to me caught on fire on the track. (no one was hurt) The root cause of the fire was an oil cooler line in the engine bay using a "push on" style line came loose close the the header. While I understand that they cost less and easier to install, don't use them for anything that gets hot or has pressure.
@ErewhonGBАй бұрын
Must admit that I've seen more failures from people not using this type of fitting properly than I ever have with push on fittings. Guess both can be messed up as I've got both on my car and never had an issue but the more steps involved the more likely it is for someone to mess it up.

I do it in a similar way. Cut and blow junk out. Assembly lube. Mark the hose with a Sharpie. Easily see if it slips. Clean the same way. Thanks for your videos.!

Time taken to damage rocker panel: 1 second. Time taken to repair rocker panel: Unknown, time does not measure in those increments. 😁 Looking forward to your braided hose video, I hate making those up so I am always interested in learning new tricks or tips.

Thanks as always for the tour, Jesse. Question about the block paint you use. I’ve noticed you always paint them black. Is that for personal esthetics? Many moons ago I was taught to paint them a light color so that you can spots leaks, etc., more easily.
@JessePrather-e1sАй бұрын
Yes I paint them all black unless the customer wants another color. Side note, if a customer has 2 engines I paint one black and one silver and note that one their build sheet. The reason I like black is because it doesn't show staining as badly. Light color blocks can look bad pretty quickly. Just a personal preference.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm a steel braided guy myself. You can legally run that through the car and it holds up much better. It just weighs more.

Great shop update. Never used one of those funnels, may get one for home. I was a VW/Audi tech and used only a vacuum fill system, you will never have an airlock and can check for leaks before coolant is added. Merry Christmas to you and family and have a safe holiday and enjoy. Can’t wait until new shop tour in 2025
