Yeah I hate when fish die but I would use a canister filter like a fluval fx2 and air stones maybe a wave maker and proper tank levels I have loaches definitely helps. . would help a lot have a good one bro.hope this could help.

I am sorry to say but this is not a healthy biotope. You need plants plants and plants plus a healthy soil to break down all the ammonia produced by these big fish. The plant that you have theredoes not seem to me to be a waterplant. So it dies and create polution. Just a filter is not enough. The amount of foam you have on the surface shows that there is a high concentration of protein. Try to grow plants first and then add the fish. Good luck next time.

I've been trying to get them to eat pellets but they don't seem like them. I got my redtail catfish, hybrid redtail x tiger shovelnose to eat them, but the tiger shovelnose don't seem to be interested lol. I see people online get theirs to eat them it might just depend on the personality of the fish I'm guessing.

I think in your case its too many fish in one tank, plus too much food, amonia spike.

This looks like a brand new tank esp the substrate. Was it cycled? Air exchange happens as the surface is disturbed, not from a bubbler. Do you have a nitrate testing kit? Temperature? Have you added any aquarium salt? If you have rain water coming in, where is it coming from? Is it beinging contaminants? 6:10 pretty much guarantee 100% no, it's something else.

Some medications and water clarifiers causes the oxygen to deplete as well, this has happened to me too. Its so devastating. I learned to always have a bottle of hydrogen peroxide on hand and if I spot fish gasping at the surface, I quickly add 20ml of it to the water and it saves the fish. Sorry for your loss.

I agree with others that your power filter was too small for the size of the tank, and for the sizes of fishes stocked. The venturi failed for some reason, so the aeration was cut off, resulting in the oxygen demand of the fishes exceeding the volume of dissolved oxygen available in the water. So the fishes started to hyperventilate. You said the rain got in. The water level was high, so you're right. So what else happened? The rain cooled the tank. The heater couldn't keep up with the influx of cold water. Don't know what wattage the heater was, but in the video it looks small. Clown loaches and Synodontis don't stand drops in temperature very well. South American tetras are better adapted to cooler downpours. Have you tested the pH? Rain water is generally acidic, and this could also have a bearing on what happened. Clown loaches thrive at pHs of 7.5 to 8.5, so a sudden drop in pH would stress them. Silver dollars are happy at acidic pHs. You lost the two species that were least able to withstand the sudden changes happening in the tank. Pity, because they were nice fish. This may be what happened but it's not always easy to diagnose from a video, especially without hard data. Oxygen depletion in aquaria with adequate aeration doesn't happen often, and when it does it tends to affect those species that are least adapted to hypoxia first, and then those species that are moderately tolerant of hypoxia second, and so on.

Heart breaking mate.Maybe that filter isn't sufficient for that size tank.Maybe add another filter or even a couple of large sponge filters to add more circulation and surface agitation. Then if that filter stops the others will still add oxygen.Sorry mate we've all been there.

From the amount of foam coming out of the filter, I can say you had an ammonia spike there, and it just, well, it happened, and is sad, as an aquarist I understand how you feel, they are to us like babies. My suggestion will be to get an anti-ammonia foam, that you can cut into pieces to fit your filter, and believe me those things do their magic, just put it together with your filter cartridge, I wouldn't say that much the lack of oxygen because it has a plant, and they provide plenty of it, but I would say get more plants, they process the ammonia for their own good and the fish benefit from a healthy plant.

It's not foam it's a submersible filter that's what they're made to do. It creates lots of bubbles. It looks pretty cool under water. That was one of the reasons I got it. Thanks for watching

If you don’t mind having plants I would add floating or plants that feed from the water column. I have a filterless tank with spotted Raphael catfish and a bunch of guppies and endlers and shrimp. In some clips you can see a thick biofilm floating on the top of your tanks. You either need a skimmer or to create a natural like state in your tanks. Only issues I have is too much plant growth

I've had sudden aquarium oxygen crashes happen to me at least four times during my time fishkeeping, and it's always horrible. From my experience, the fish that are affected the most by oxygen crashes are Tetras (Neon, Black Neon, Black Skirt, etc.), Cyprinids (Siamese Flying Fox, Red-Tailed Black Shark, Siamese Algae Eater, etc.), Loaches (Yoyo, Polka-Dot, etc.), and some Catfish (Synodontis, Pictus). However, some fish I've had haven't been affected that much, and those fish include Bettas, Corydoras, Guppies, Mollies, Platies, and some others. Recently, I made the really difficult decision to rehome every single one of my fish after my tank suffered another oxygen crash and simultaneous ammonia spike that I couldn't bring down, even after a big water change and dumping an entire bottle of water conditioner and another of beneficial bacteria into the tank. However, I have kept my Axolotl, who lives in a different tank, and she's doing fantastic.

That makes sense because my fish thar are able to come up for air weren't affected at all. I usually keep my wavemaker in the tank, but I removed it to clean it and never put it back in and this was the outcome, but lesson learned. mmmm i think you need a big canister filter , because you actually filter is tooooooooo small for your type of aquarium and fish population , you need test your water parameters , use clay for your substrate , buy the cheaper , I use OIL DRI is 100 clay no need wash before use , just dumped in your aquarium with out fish , after 2 day put your fish in your aquarium

hey man, i always run a second hang on back small little filter pump, nothing big just to churn up the surface of the water and add air, it also acts as a secondary buffer if shit like this happens, sorry for you loss bro, not your fault it is what it is.... edit i just finished your video, that pump is way too strong man.... for little fish like that your makin a crazy whirlpool, got any piping so you could split that output into a couple pipes?

@OliverGargano That's smart. I usually run my wave maker as well, but I took it out to clean it and didn't put it back in. The sub mersible pump has a nob to turn down the flow, I like this filter but it's the 2nd time one of them stopped on me with a similar outcome. Im not sure how they get clogged or stop pumping. Hey, thanks for the comment, and thanks for watching. If you haven't already dropped a like and make sure you subscribe and set your notifications to catch my future videos.
