One of the best bands that never quite made it. Saw them at a festival in Leicester and again at Bunkers Hill in Nottingham. What are they doing now I wonder?

What’s with the unnecessary hate towards U2 in particular💀 imo you should be able to uplift something without bringing others down. Classy of Alan not to comment on that. I guess I’m biased because U2 is my second favorite band and has helped me through a lot along with DM. But that was so unnecessary imo.

Depeche Mode is Alan Wilder, Martin Gore and Dave Gahan. Anyone of them missing is a weak Depeche Mode.

Remarkable doc. I first saw the Rose Bowl show as part of a VH1 Behind The Music. Then I found the whole show here. Dave Gahan out on the proscenium with the 200k waving fans sent a chill right through me. In the doc it was said that Gahan had a hard time processing everything and went into a spiral. I've never seen devotion like DM. The things that the Russians, East Germans and Romanians got through DM was like nothing I've ever seen. Not even the Beatles. They've had a huge following in Mexico and if a band like them can do that in Mexico, that's really saying something. I've loved them since the 80s and it's great they're still around.

I'm 48 and have been a fan since I was 7 years old in 1981. I was exactly like these kids and luckily have gotten to see DM in my teens 1988 and 1990 and now as an adult most recently in March 2023. I haven't missed a show since 1988 and will forever be a Depeche Mode fan. I just wish Alan Wilder was credited for his contributions since he was such a pivotal member of the band. Now, since the passing of Andrew Fletcher; DM is just Dave and Martin, but they remain to be such influential contributors to music.

Just found out that this documentary was shelved according to online article by side-line. Its on bbc iplayer now. Apparently the record company Mute was embarrassed by portrayal of their fans. That it gave the wrong impression of their music and the image of the band. Also, the German family was quite off putting to most some German fans?
@niellalien7 ай бұрын
I believe it. Most of the fans are creepy, especially the family. They're like weeaboos but it's DM 🙈

So weird that all the movies and documentaries about DM are about their fanbase. I know that they have a cult following and it's well-deserved but as a fan myself, I don't care about that. I'd rather see a documentary that goes deep into the story of the band. Oh well... Maybe that's why this documentary was unreleased.
@niellalien7 ай бұрын
Same. I put off watching the Spirits movie for the same reason, didn't watch it until recently. I did enjoy it but I wish there were more docs about the band. I always say I would also watch a dramatization of their story, I don't care how cheesy it might be, lol. I'm surprised there hasn't been one, like Worried About The Boy, the Boy George movie
