The Chinese Room is indie now? They have 100+ people in the team maybe more people than some AAA studios.
@SkillyMcFilly12 сағат бұрын
Yes, an indie developer means there is no other company, investors, or forces external to the company that have a say in their game's development and creative direction. The Chinese Room is an independent developer in this regard. You can google them and find numerous sources confirming they are indie. The definition of indie is not based on number of people at the studio. I also think you would struggle to find a Triple studio with 100 or less employees lol.
@Cheshirecrow12 сағат бұрын
@@SkillyMcFilly Really, than it means most developers are indie. I did just look up on Wiki and by their standards, EA, Larian or Ubisoft are also indies now since they publish their own game instead of cooperating with large publishers. It feels a bit unfair for smaller teams that are really indie don't you agree? Yes, in case you are wondering, there are a lot of AAA studios with less than 100, for instance, Criterion Games had around 80-90 when they made Need for Speed, Klei owned by Tencent and they have around 100, Double Fine owned by Microsoft have around 90, Bluepoint Games owned by Sony have around 80, etc. I enjoyed your video a lot btw
@SkillyMcFilly7 сағат бұрын
Indie is not defined by self-publishing. I'm not super familiar with Larian's situation. EA and Ubisoft are not indie because they are publicly traded companies who have to answer to investors and an executive board who aren't active in the actual development of a game. Both EA and Ubisoft have had numerous public examples of a game being cancelled or features added/changed at the insistence of investors or executive boards. Both of these companies also consist of multiple location studios that actively develop multiple games at once and have little to no overlap. Sure more Triple A studios back in the days of Need for Speed era probably had a lot less employees. You'd be hard-pressed to find more than a handful of examples of Triple A developers with less than 100 nowadays. While studios like Bluepoint Games do have less than 100 they have Sony's backing and active voice in what and how they develop games. For example most studios like Bluepoint Games have a Sony Project Manager or equivalent role in house for each project that helps oversee things some. The Chinese Room does not have this according to their website, publicly available company information, and documentaries/behind the scenes videos about their development processes. Not sure I understand what fairness has to do with the definition of Independent Developer or Indie Game. These are just classifications for how a game is made and Still Wakes The Deep and The Chinese Room meet that definition. It's not good or bad to be an indie game or a Triple A. In my opinion, it's unfair to let those labels color someone's judgement on whether a game is worthy of their attention. Really the only question that matters would be is the game good?

The comments have also said this jeep is like 7 different models now so somebody is wrong 🤣.

I did a tour in Afghanistan in 2004-2005 & worked as a one-time apprentice on an oil rig in Norway & the situational awareness you have to have is about the same as the front lines because of all the risks, but I would choose Marines over a rig anyday. Cthulhu was a common myth among the South Pacific Islanders on the rig so this game is a living nightmare lol
