A conspiracy podcast drags you into a hauntingly illustrated world of mystery and terror. Reveal secrets and horrors with mystical frames given to you by a strange observer. Dark and Deep is a first person cosmic horror game with a focus on puzzles and exploration.
I created Dark and Deep because I wanted to bring a totally new visual aesthetic to the horror genre. There is not a game that looks like mine. My art process is unique, bringing the illustrations of 19th Century Artist, Gustave Doré into a new dimension.
I have had a lifelong obsession with conspiracies and mythology. I made Dark and Deep to share my love for the strange and ancient with the horror game community.
You play as Samuel Judge, a loyal fan of the mysterious conspiracy podcast, "Dark and Deep". Plunged into a shadowy and dangerous landscape, you must survive... and you are not alone.
Use magical picture frames to fight hidden creatures and reveal important objects. The frames are windows into a terrifying world, but also tools to banish the darkness. Unveil the conspiracy before the shadows swallow you.
Listen to the podcast. Experience the unraveling as your favorite conspiracy podcast comes too close to home. Become embroiled in a dramatic tale of intrigue and betrayal where the real and surreal collide.
Solve physics puzzles using powerful ancient machines of cryptic origin. Manipulate gravity and clear a path through the deadly fog. Use precious embers of light in the darkness to show your way. But beware… The creatures in the shadows want nothing more than to steal your light.
Dark and Deep features a totally unique aesthetic, which uses the art of 19th century master artist, Gustave Doré as the textures for much of the game. Doré was legendary for his detailed black and white illustrations of mythological and historical scenes. Dark and Deep uses his aesthetic to tell a surreal cosmic horror story where the boundaries of sanity and reality are bent and broken.
-Unveil hidden secrets and lurking enemies with a collection of mystical frames given to you by a mysterious observer.
-Battle what lurks in the shadows using your frames and ancient supernatural machines discovered in the world. Don’t let what hides in the deadly darkness steal away your light.
-Survive in a cryptic and surreal world filled with dangerous inhabitants and challenging puzzles.

@@SkillyMcFilly The name of the angel who fights the serpent is Michael. He is the only angel named, perhaps because of his rank or level of leadership. Only want to let you know for future reference. Michael fights the great serpent (devil) with other angels and sends him down to earth from heaven(space) where he roams the earth leading the world astray. Deceiving the nations and waging war against the creator. Honestly, the writer and developer of this game has instilled a lot of lore, however, in an indirect way. There's more to this game that meets the eye. I definitely encourage you to watch videos or read about it, even if you are not a believer. Seeing historical art and various historical architecture makes a lot more sense after doing so.

Correction - Michael is the only angel named in relation to the battle of the serpent. Not in general, as there are others with names depicted in religious history.

Gustave Dore is a French artist. He died in 1883. His wood carvings illustrate books like Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy.

Intriguing if bit confusing story so far. Just theorising here but I kept feeling like the podcast guy was also the guy suggesting we hack the servers at work (& thus he could "solve" his next mystery of who the hackers were (since he knew/convinced us to do it)? Or he was a hacker all along? 🤔). I'd be interested to watch & find out for sure on full release. I love the diff style frames & that you have to look through them to see the creatures! The design on that last frame looked awesome!

This is actually really rad. theres another game you should look out for skilly, "Necrophosis". The Devs of "The Shore" and "Eresys" are currently developing it. It is definitely something up yours and Indys alley, cuz i know you guys are a lot like me and love cosmic and lovecraftian style horrors.

It was a bit confusing to me too but that might be because it's a playtest. I'm interested to see how the full release's story works. The overall direction of the game is great for a solo dev and I'm definitely playing the full release.

gustav dore was a real artist who specialised in engravings and biblical depictions/illustrations from classical english literature such as Dante's divine comedy.. All the art in the game is his.
