So you really have never heard of Aphex Twin before? Ha? kzbin.info/www/bejne/ioubY2qioNCnj9Usi=RjmsuF5uQ6ZbRYUI Tim Hecker, Trent Reznor, Oneohtrix Point Never, Fennesz, Ben Frost, Stars of the Lid, William Basinski, Akira Yamaoka, Laurel Halo etc. There are some. Now, I don't know if Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada, Bohren & der Club of Gore, and others who have ambient, but are not necessarily only ambient belong there. But Mostly I like that it's experimental, organ, keyboards, glitching, looping, and that it's dark ambient and has a lot of sharp and loud noise ❤ much rather than your 50s, 60s & 70s so called Rock n Roll music that sounds to me like or were like to me you were lost in isolated cabin or house with no electricity, internet, water, home phone, television and no cell phone signal kzbin.info/www/bejne/mYDccmqXgJV7p7csi=pppqDpLrtth6isBU in some mountainous rocky desert where you can hear a cricket like this one here and I hate the village from the bottom of my soul! : kzbin.info/www/bejne/iZrWp3WOfLNgp80si=yPydHZHWpQSQr40G

Important think on the GU-81 tube the GU-81 (Not GU-81M) has 2 internal capacitors (800pF) between grid 2 and the filament ends. Their voltage rating is 2kV so be mindful of them otherwise they can short out and kill your tube. So some kind of voltage clamping system like neon bulbs are a good idea. Or get the GU-81M tube
@janno28826 күн бұрын
The GU-81 tube has 2 Capaciors inside between grid 2 and the filament ends. The capacitance is around 800pF. According to a 15 year old russian post the breakdown voltage is 2.2-2.5kV, i would recommend to put neon bulbs series and parallel combinations between g2 and ground to clamp the voltage down to 1kV or so,since the grid automatically clamps the positive pulse

For now I'm done with Linux, but I am keeping an eye out Steam OS, I'll definateley be giving that a try when (or rather IF) it comes out.

@@CoolDudeClem Linux can be a handful. I run Linux and sometimes I run into things I can't figure out. I looked at SteamOS and it's out. I wouldn't use it myself though. It's based on a very old version of Debian. I don't know what they're thinking with that. I'm running one release behind and I'm having dependency problems with some software. The version SteamOS uses is 4 releases behind. Skip that. You'd have to wear bell bottoms and go to the disco. That stuff is way out of date. I couldn't daily drive something that old. I'm good at managing decrepit distros too. I have lots of experience. I started running Linux in 1995. So I know old Linux.

2:35 not to nit pick, but why are you using electrolytic capacitors? For high voltage they are unreliable and dangerous.

It's likely that the terminal wires have gone bad. (The vibrating wires from the terminals to the cone) I had Edifier r2730DB in which the main speaker's 6.5" woofer made a similar sound and cut off randomly. needles to say, it is repairable and online shops sell those wires.

But what a unique personality that power supply has! . if you are going to play with Tesla Coil, keep in mind, although the high frequency arc is "safe" (that one fries your nerves without them noticing), the arc itself acts as a path with the high voltage of the primary of the coil.... If you're not very careful with grounding and stuff, it can be dangerous and painful... I say this from experience. take care.

Oh Tesla coil experiments 😀😎, that's cool Clem, also don't pay any attention to dumb comments mate, the people who make comments criticising are always the same "know it all do nothings" 100 percent guaranteed if you check their channel " This channel has no content" ... I wouldn't even respond mate don't even let them know It bothered you.... anyway great to see you back making electronics videos mate, hope you're all good.. Steve

It used to get me when people would talk about what I assumed to be an even more elaborate build than what I had in whatever video it was..but then they would ask me to try all kinds of stuff cause they had theories and predictions.. and it's like bro how about you do it if you've got the setup?
@T2D.SteveArcs3 ай бұрын
@Magneticitist exactly mate " know it all, do nothings " . People are quick to criticise and tell you what you're doing wrong,.. A friend of mine says the best way to get answers on the Internet is not to post a video asking for the answer but rather post a video with the wrong answer and let people tell you why you are wrong 😅, ... anyone criticising Clem is a clown that probably never gave anything back to the yt community for the thousands of hours of free content they have no doubt consumed ...

I've got loads of gear but when I make videos for others to follow I try use things that avarage enthusiasts/hobbyists can get, for example I appreciate that most people don't have banks of 10A 1700V stud diodes and 40uf 2.5kV caps so I bought a bag of 10A10s and used a few lytics in series

@@T2D.SteveArcs I feel ya. Same here. I donate alot of kits for people who want to learn. I need a decent sa then my bench is done. I bought a prs last week instead haha. I have like one more kit to give away and I'm done though. I've been donating learning kits for like 5 years and I've got so many components I'll never use so the psus, soldering stations and such are almost gone. Then I'm finished. I'd like a real curve tracer but that's a halo item.

I think the problem you had with your speaker came from the flexible wires between the voice coil and the terminals. Those wires, sometimes, fail by intermittence, because of vibration. It's a delicate job, but it can be fixed. You also have a deformed dust cap. So, maybe it doesn't worth to fix it.
@CoolDudeClem3 ай бұрын
I never thought of that. I have seen that happen to some other speakers I own.
