@@thenoplanchannel I'm excited for the Cosmic review y'all already mentioned. I'd love to see more reviews that are in depth on Linux laptops. The Star Labs Starlite tablet, the new Pangolin and maybe the Framework. For example, a break down of how good the aluminum chassis are, what parts are plastic, deck flex, a standardized test for performance, Etc. Linux content that's geared towards tech enthusiasts more that it is geared towards SysAdmins. I know that might not be possible but it would be sweet if it happens. I personally gravitate towards your Linux content but I don't know if y'all want to be known as a Linux channel or not.

We are indeed trying to appeal to a broad tech audience. But, host Micah, is a massive Linux nut😅 And always pushes for Linux content. And neither of us are into the Sysadmin side of Linux anyway. We want our Linux content to appeal to everyday users and those who want to play with the options and features of Linux... But not write a bunch of code to get it working. Also, we may or may not have already been talking with System76 about their new Pangolin and there may or may not be a video on it soon😉

@@thenoplanchannel Thats so COOOOL!!! Can't wait for the totallynothappening video! Pleeeeease talk about the Chassis and the Deck Flex. Pretend Linus from LTT is demonstrating how rigid or not rigid it is. Also, I'd love to see how the firmware updates are handled on a native PopOS device. Anything else y'all can think of which would make their design really shine. I'd also be interested in an Pangolin to Pangolin comparison of the two generations. I know the new one is an R9 but I'm not convinced it's worthy the of 9. Maybe a tear down guide too if that's not too crazy. Could be a separate video. Maybe upgrade the SSD or add a new one if it supports dual storage devices.

Pine64 and the wider Linux enthusiast space falls into the same trap that OpenMoko did, and arguably to an even stronger degree. Being able to use a phone as a 'convergence device' and run Gnome or KDE sounds neat, but when calling and texting aren't solidly stable, one ends up with a glorified tablet (or PDA in the case of OpenMoko). Still curious how the A64 board could be used to its full potential.

For all the mud I've flung at Android ROM developers enabling Google's continued enclosure of open source, there is still so much concentrated effort on microG and LineageOS and F-Droid so I have a degree of respect for them continuing to build on top of AOSP. Anyways I switched to KaiOS LOL

@@harney-barrow2036 Absolutely! There MUST be a focus on the main necessary functions of a Linux phone OS first and then build features on top of that. @@thenoplanchannel Sure. There's really only two things I miss slightly and that's a few Norwegian apps, like the phone is a ticket for public transport around Oslo and it is also a valid personal ID. Neither of those things will work, but I have a card for both, so it's not an issue. I don't use the camera very much at all and I don't use my phone for playing games or surfing because I'm surrounded by laptops, desktops and big screens all the time. I mostly use my phone for connectivity and PIM, like calendar, tasks, projects, contacts, etc. All of that works very well. It's nice to be able to use the same software as I use on the desktop. Right now I'm using it as a server. But I can just pop in another SD card to turn it back into a phone and it's not going to be outdated, so I like having it. :)

It’s not perfect, It looks like it definitely has seen better days, several corners are rusted and scratched but the screen is clean, the inputs are functional, and it even has the original remote. Truth is that no matter which one you go with, it’s always something to be treasured.

The thing on the screen is 100% a plastic protective film. I took mine off and replaced it with a glass one from the official store way back. That feature transforms this thing into a tiny portable computer with a massive battery. Good video otherwise!

Interesting!! I've seen many posts of people trying to take off that protector and it destroys their screen. Good to know though! And, those accessories sure are cool, but to me, they fall short when the main device has a hard time making calls or receiving messages. Most aren't looking to just add another device to their pocket, they want to replace the one they have with a device that respects their privacy. Thank you for the comment and I'm glad you like the video!

i understand your good intentions, i get you're sad about how this came out to be only becuase you love the idea and you would like to see that spike onto new levels. but the way modern mobile industry is not taking seriously the freedom of the user when it comes to managing the ongoing processes on your device, locking lots of useful features under the scary name of "developer options" as if it were such a unuseful things for daily drives and such harsh things to understand and locking it under the stupid safety measures of tapping five times to your phone build number, only for then not being able to use any of these options because they really only break your apps, should we even mention those companies that locks bootloaders under an account creation that needs your sim specifics? and lots of other things that the industry has been taking up to suppress the experienced user to touch anything on what should be there for them to use (yes, there are exploits to unlock bootloaders etc but i dont really count them when it comes to freedom to the user) i really can't stand anymore what has been going on with mobile devices, some time i take some money up and i will definitely daily drive these pieces of trash, my disappointment is just too beyond to really care about performance, date of the hardware, quality or response times. thank you anyway for infotainment :)

Truth be told, when it comes to the whole user experience, I have to say that Ubuntu touch works quite well on a Pixel 3a which is the recommended device from the Ubuntu ports project. Of course, Pixel 3.a is a much, much more powerful device than a Pine Phone. But as someone already mentioned, the reason this is is because UT uses proprietary Android drivers that already ship with Pixel 3/a that utilize hardware acceleration, in the form of Halium hardware abstraction layer, which I geuss is not really the case for Pine Phone.
