The reason why i resonate so much with Rex is because he very much sees the darkness in the world, his optimism and hope isnt formed from delusion but rather from genuine hope that things can get better. I mean he knows that best himself since he dealt with it when losing his parents yet others were still able to fill that void, people like Corinne and Azurda. I love his unwavering belief in the idea of inherited will and how it's essentially his answer to keeping peace, its an answer that he formed from seeing the world and truly understanding what the blade system really is. His dynamic with Jin is my favorite in the whole series, the way that Rex is able to help Jin and finally give him peace never fails to move me. The value that Rex holds for people is greater than any Other Xenoblade protagonist I'd argue.

I want to point out that it's easy to see Rex's Optimism as blind, naive, or idiotic. However, Rex is shown to be self-aware of the problems Alrest is facing. Sure, it's not always easy to be Optimistic, but it can do a lot of good to be positive and hopeful cause we need that sometimes. Another factor that helped Rex through his journey was that he was the first to view and treat Pyra and Mythra as people. He never refers to them as the Aegis, only referring to their power that way. Aside from that, Rex also made them feel like they were a part of his life outside of his goal for Elysium. He's willing to make a life for them in Alrest.

Addam also intentionally laid out the breadcrumbs for somebody like Rex to come around by making a Leftherian the most likely to get the job done. Since a location like Leftherian was the type of environment to raise such a humble individual. Similar to how Riku in XC3 radicalized Noah to not end up like N. Xenoblade may or may not have true predestination, but it does have a message that nurture overrides nature, on top of its many other profound messages.

Great video, I don't see people bringing this point up nearly enough. Rex is supposed to be a strong force of good and change in Alrest when everything is going to hell, and that's why he works. He's the light everyone in Alrest needs, especially Pyra and Mythra.

Wish you touched on elysuim more. Rex belief in goodness of human nature is inseparable from his desire to take his friends to elysium and make the world better. You can never separate the two concepts.
@oluvids5 күн бұрын
The point I was making is basically that believing and going to elysium isn't how he saved alrest, but rather bringing the internal aspects I mentioned once he get's there is the true important aspect of rex (For example Amalthus also believed and climbed Elysium for answers as well, but he didn't have those qualities.)

It wasn't until much later after I beat the game that I realized that there's a reason Rex is the only main character in these games that's a child. That optimism of his despite the hardships he's gone through, in both his back story and events in the game, gives him a very hopeful view of people and of the world. And becoming the wielder of The Aegis gave him the power to act on it. Making him grow up as his journey went along. I love Shulk and Noah, but Rex is still my favorite.
@okaminokuro6 күн бұрын
Rex is optimistic but not foolish. He learns and grows with each setback. Sora is a bumbling idiot that plot-armours and brute forces his way through life. i see the resemblince, but rex does the archetype infinity better. Sora works for his seiries, but can be insufferable at times, Rex is genuinely likable throughout.
@oluvids6 күн бұрын
Just wanna put this out there since I put the footage for it but didn't explicitly say it, but how Rex got the third sword is very important. First of all of course it was his care of his friends, but alsp, it was becausw he chose to bear Mythra's burden with her fully. Throughout the game He and Py/thra were not fully in sync, and Rex never really dug into why Pyra wanted to go to Elysium, and how she felt about what happened 500 years ago. In that section where he's depressed, brighid reveals the true reason. It was only when rex declared that he'll share py/thra's pain fully, the pain of what happened and the burden of wielding such terrible power. Even Addam feared her true strength and sealed her away, which probably fed even more into her feelings of guilt. Rex chooses to take the good with the bad, and to join with them trauma n all completely. It's kinda like if you knew a person who you like generally but they're dealing with some issues. It's much easier to be when them when things are good, or to avoid awknowledging the issues. Rex however said that he'll be there through thick and thin and she won't bear that burden alone anymore. Both examples would probably still have a good relationship, but the latter while more difficult will lead to a deeper connection. You could say it was then that they were able to fully max their Affinity and Synergy

I think one of the reasons Rex is my favorite is because of his faith in humanity as you touched on. It’s often very hard to put into practice, but believing there are good people out there is what makes life worth it. One of the many valuable messages from XC2 and why I love it so much.

I thought you would compare him to Addam as well because he also had the goal to save the world from Malos but couldn't overcome his fear of Mythras power. Rex saw that power that devastated even Mythra herself and took the burden from her. Not only did his positive outlook on life help other people around him but also his selflessness to risk his own life just to bring smiles to other people is what saved his world.
@oluvids7 күн бұрын
Oh yeah, honestly this is something that came into my head pretty late into editing, so while I didn't say it, I did include the scene where addam explains that he feared mythra's power, and that rex is different. This is definitely very important so thanks for commenting this!
@lukedelameter79617 күн бұрын
Quite simply, the entire game is thematically Rex doing his job: Finding broken or discarded things, and finding the value still hidden inside. Pyra and Mythra are broken, carying centuries of nursed regret. Nia is broken, knowing no family, only pursuit. Alrest itself is broken, dying, and everyone knows it. And yet Rex finds hope. Finds Elysium. Finds the will to keep going even when everything is broken.

@@Tracks2008 Rex isn't sheltered, as that would imply he's been hidden away from the hardship of the world. The dude was already working to support the people back home, in a pretty dangerous field of work I might add. Yes, he was an outsider to the military and political worlds, but that's not enough to be considered sheltered.

Well NoE handles the localization of Xenoblade which ia why they use eu voice actors while X is handled by NoA. Also the characters from X come from the USA though some are from different countries like Nagi being Japanese it wouldn't make sense for them so speak with a British accent though it doesn'treally matter since I always use the og japanese dub as in my opinion only xenoblade 1 and X have good voiceacting while 2 and 3 are awful. Hopefully they fix the localization issues like the translation as all xenoblade game specifically the Klaus trilogu is notorious for its bad translation with its removal of Christian religious themes and names from 2. The new storu will most likely set up a sequel and or a connection to the Klaus saga since Future Redeemed mentioned project exodus from X though it could also be from Xenosaga but most likely from X since saga is owned by namco i think.
