Related to the amazeballs Goni, do you ever run carbon? I have 5 smaller frags of Gonis that have very low extension for months and it’s been probably over 6 months since I ran a bag of carbon. Practically the same day as adding a bag a carbon to the sump, all of those Gonis have extended ever so slightly and remained that way for the last 36 hours since adding the carbon. Might be worth a shot for your amazeballs.
@theloneaquaristСағат бұрын
@@timjohnson3913 I actually did add am some carbon into the reactor a few days after this video. I also started adding Polylab Booster in the morning during fish feeding time. And it’s at least started extending a tiny bit. I ordered some Brightwell Restor after watching Devon’s video on his ReefDudes channel

How did you get rid of dino?
@theloneaquarist9 күн бұрын
Mostly patience. But I don’t think I was dealing with actual Dinos. It was probably chrysophytes. I tried a few things initially - light out, h2o2 treatment, and Dino-X. The Dino-X did hit it back. So that probably gave a leg up to other bacteria or diatoms or even other algae to out-compete. Since then I’ve been good at bacterial dosing and silicate dosing. I’ve also let my asterina population explode. The large population of asterina stars has really made an impact on algae and the chrysos.

Chris Meckley has picked top 3 corals at a few events on Reefbuilders KZbin channel. He gave a top 3 to an amazeballs Goni because it looked so good. The coral grower who was selling the Goni claims to have good success with them. He said his secret is to keep the amazeballs in tanks that have no other Gonis in the tank because he thinks other Gonis are releasing something into the water that amazeballs does not like. I’m not saying remove your other Goni, but if that guy is correct, it might help to move the Amazeballs far away from the other Goni.

My favorite daily doser is actually not shown there and that's the Neptune DOS. I have this mounted on the inside wall. It's integration into the APEX UI and ease of setting up a very particular dosing regimen is why I like it most. I use it for Alk and Ca supplementation. Second is the Kamoer X1 PRO T2 -- and this is for constant dosing. I use it to feed the kalk reactor 24/7.

I stumbled on your video and enjoyed it. Was laughing when you showed the foxface spitting because one -two of my tangs also do that. Having different tanks myself, I will say euro brace tank easily solve the fish spitting, salt creep and water splashes. With regards to Ecotech grease, there's also a big tube u can buy that'll last u a life time for the next time u have to buy another batch...that might save a little money. Maxspect pumps - same here, I buy backup pumps for two purpose: backup and makes easy cleaning... just switch out the pump when u need to clean. 2nd, I am assuming you have the cloud version, the controller can use either pumps - xf330 or xf350. setting can be changed in the menu. I don't have a regular version to confirm if that can also accommodate either pumps as well. I like ur idea with regards to the Tropic Marin hyydrometer. Will copy that. I have one still new in the box since it was first introduced. Never used it because I never got around to it and the idea of stopping my pumps to measure salinity seems like a hassle until now. Thanks appreciate the video
@theloneaquaristАй бұрын
Thanks 😊 I’m using the non-cloud edition controller. So it can only run the 330 I believe, that’s the version I have-But it can run the cloud edition pumps since the voltage requirements are the same since the pump is basically the same but with a better motor housing assembly.
@MikeLemmingАй бұрын
Nice update man. I recently cleaned all my pumps as well. Just a quick vinegar bath does the trick!
@theloneaquaristАй бұрын
The common thinking with vinegar is that it can penetrate plastics over time. Here’s a quote from a Reef2Reef forum member and staff, “Vinegar (acetic acid) is great for tanks, and any parts that are not metals covered with plastic (magnets on pumps come to mind). The reason is that acetic acid does not dissociate very well....actually very poorly dissociates....that is, forms free ions in solution. So what you have is a small "neutral" acid that now has the ability to penetrate plastics. Doesn't happen overnight, but repeated cleaning with vinegar will eventually penetrate the plastic, getting to the metal parts within. And now they rust and swell and eventually crack open the plastic cover. I have five Vortech wetsides that I can show you, so I know first hand. I no longer clean pumps/magnets with vinegar.”
@MikeLemmingАй бұрын
@ I’ve done this for years. I guess it won’t be an issue until it’s an issue. I tried acid but wasn’t impressed.

@@MikeLemming so the a couple factors that I think is the reason is mold and moisture. The Cade sump cabinet is very air tight unfortunately--more than I’ve seen in other sump cabinet designs. Sumps are optimal environments for mold. Consider the type of interior finish under the tank. I try to make sure it’s at the very least a high gloss white finish so it’s easier to see the mold and also easier to clean it. Mold colonies on bare wood are sometimes difficult to see before they get completely out of hand, and almost impossible to fully wipe off without harsh chemicals. Tip: Many airborne spores can be sterilized using ozone. After cleaning as much mold off surfaces as you can, run ionized O3 through your skimmer every night, with the cabinet fully enclosed. The sump mold problem may not go away completely, but you’ll have 95% of the mold propagation managed using this technique. The most important thing to mitigate is the health risks, and enclosed ozone in the sump for an hour every night when the lights go out is the best way to keep it contained.
