ATTENTION!!! Pulling the starter out on an AWD (G37X) is a bunch easier based on how the front driver side axle is positioned. You can adjust the position of the front axel by moving the brake disk. This allows the front axel receptacle which is rounded on one side and flat on the other side to give a bit more clearance for o move the part in. The whole unit needs to be rotated 180deg on its longer axis putting the solenoid towards the passenger side and the “ear” bolt hole up towards the driver side axel. Have someone rotate the brake disk while pulling the starter out in this position and wiggling it out and will come out easy!!

Because of you, I did not give up. RWD '08 S. I had to remove some of the wiring clips and the screw that retains the coolant lines so I could turn it upwards and around. Thanks.

I've swapped mine a couple times now. A little tip to get the starter out: After you've pulled the two bolts and disconnected both wires, pull the starter straight towards the front of the car and roll it counterclockwise as you go. This allows the solenoid to clear the motor mount. Once you get it just past the motor mount, start twisting and rolling and cussing until you snake it out through the bottom. Also, when he first says he's taking the ground cable loose, that's actually the positive cable from the battery (make sure your battery is disconnected before you attempt removing the starter. Also, to get mine past the sway bar, I had to remove a wire harness hanger from the bottom of the AC compressor, and like he did, I also took the trans cooler lines loose at the oil pan. Good luck. It's not a fun job. Make sure you have plenty of light and take your time.

@twins3007 Those lines are definitely in the way. It's a tight squeeze and you have to remove the little clamp that holds the lines to the oil pain. And keep flipping and rotating and cussing and such. It's as tight as anything could be, short of being impossible.

I didnt have to remove the trans cooler lines. I just removed the bolt that held them in and push it down and the starter fell out. But putting it back in lol good luck. Just had to play with it for 20 mins to get it set in
