It sure it! 180 degree and flat are interchangeable terms for it, its when the engine has split crank pins that you have to specify that its a boxer engine instead of just a flat or a 180 degree engine, and the Tucker engine was not a boxer, neither the heavily modified O-335 that actually went into the cars, or the sidelined prototype 589ci monster that could barely produce even a meagre 83 horsepower.

I thought this engine up about a year ago. I was thinking about how a 6 jug Harley engine would balance and fire, how the crank would be designed, what kind of orientation/offset I would need for air cooled fins and available airflow around the cylinders. Then I got researching and found others have made them in the past and put them in choppers.

Its really a matter of having the right tyres and suspension for the job, as well as deciding if you want a road car or a rally car which informs your choice of springs and shock absorbers. I don't recall if I had any mods installed here, it has been 7 years and a whole PC upgrade, rebuild and Windows reinstall so I've long lost this version of the game, but I do recall there being a mod that reworks the physics engine somewhat to make it more realistic, though given the age of this video I suspect this was before I began installing mods.

If you're asking how to add engines that you download into the program, you go to engine-sim-v0.1.14a\assets\engines, make a new folder in there for your engines or just dump the .mr files in there, then open Engine Sim, click the Load Engine button, and browse to the directory that contains the engine you want to load. Edit: Its far more elegant than it used to be, you used to have to edit another file to change the directory, but Ange thankfully implemented the current method which is far easier and far superior.

@Avetho

I think it would be akin to adapting three I-3 engines into a common block, with a 60 degree bank angle between them, since a radial 3 engine has the cylinders 120 degrees apart on the crank, or 240 apart in timing, so with the banks all being their own cycles with their cylinders 120 degrees apart, the 60 degree split between each means that in the 720 degree long 4 stroke cycle each bank fires a cylinder once every 240 degrees, and the engine as a whole has an even firing pattern of once every 80 degrees. The way I have this one set up is that the rear row fire one after the other, so this engine isn't balanced well in terms of its firing order, but it does make it quite predictable and easy to make exhaust headers for, and for an ECU to control it, its simply the same I-3 engine but copy-pasted with an 80 degree timing delay between banks, so it could be treated like a set of 3 inline 3 engines just connected together with 3 individual I-3 ECUs mapped to a common throttle body and sensors and whatnot.

@@peekaboo1575 Yeah, if I redid this engine or one like it, most likely once Ange releases the first version of ES3D -(or well we make it through the current G5 solar storm at least)- I would certainly mirror the center bank cylinder head, it wouldn't do anything to change engine function, but in real life it would make it lighter weight due to less required heat shielding, the way its set out in this video would require some hefty heat shielding between bank one's intake and bank two's exhaust header and between bank two's intake and bank three's exhaust, and for thermal balance this might be best mounted as mid-engine transverse with bank one being the front-most bank and the exhausts coming out the front side of the engine, so the exhaust heat doesn't roast the transmission, 1000 horsepower is a lot for a transverse gearbox to handle so keeping that thing cool is very important.

@Avetho
@Avetho 2 ай бұрын
Thanks! I'd imagine the cranks would be connected by either a very hefty chain or by a common helical-cut gear that acts as the output, kinda like the Cizetta V16T which has a big helical gear in the middle of the crank. If you do cast your own engine parts, you should upload videos on the process, I think a lot of people would be quite interested to follow along! And on the order of the simulator itself, AngeTheGreat really did make a cool simulator, he's currently working on a better 3D version since this one, now referred to as ES2D, was more of a proof of concept, so if you want to keep up to date with his advancements with ES3D you could subscribe to his KZbin channel. He's made a lot of improvements with particle simulation and basically outright created systems to properly simulate the engine sounds rather than some of the things he added to ES2D to make it sound decent. In a recent video he showed what ES2D's raw output audio sounds like and its pretty flat and not very engine-like, but ES3D sounds a lot more like the exhaust of an engine without those shortcuts he had to make in ES2D for it to work right. Its fascinating to watch the development process, I'd say. He recently stepped up the test motor from a weed-whacker motor to an I-4 with a zoomie header on it, he seems to be working on getting exhaust collectors simulated, which includes gas mixing and backpressure and vacuum waves causing scavenging and all that, which means designing a proper equal-length header is now going to be necessary in Engine Simulator to get maximum power from an engine. Fascinating stuff.

Tbh that it idea MIGHT be sollution for incredible oil consumption in wankel engines just like in two strokes. Diesel fuel itself has lubrifying specs so you don’t have to use so much engine oil. Also you can connect „exhaust” side with oil gasket so exhaust and intake sides of housing would be lubed just by rotors movement. Ignition side would be lubed partially by mixture of fuel and engine oil. But unfortunetely just like detroit diesels, this engine cannot stay n/a to provide some sensible gas pedal responsiveness, especially in uphills. Otherwise it’s really brilliant idea! 😊

Is it possible to make the engine from the yellow line race?
@Avetho
@Avetho 3 ай бұрын
It could be, but there isn't much material to go on. Technically, the TRZ Airmaster should be a huge radial engine with I believe 90mm bores and enough cylinders to displace 2000 cubic inches, though I don't know if 2000 CUI is reasonable or not, but the Airmaster is also something called a Motorjet, hence it having an afterburning turbine exhaust and a thrust-vectored variable-geometry convergent-divergent thrust nozzle, which is basically required for it to even provide the kinds of rocket thrust on Nitro which JP needed to do something like spinning the Trans Am so fast and with such a burst of speed and thrust it skipped across a lake on Roboworld like a stone thrown by a professional skipper. The previous engine was likely a huge V8 or V12 engine with a giant supercharger, as seen by the Yellowline Trans Am engine sticking part way out of the bonnet, and it made a little over half the power of the Airmaster, I read somewhere that the Yellowline Trans Am had to make around 20k horsepower, while the Airmaster is a complete monster in comparison at 35k, and somewhere else I read that the Gold Nitro had to boost power by like 10 times just to achieve the speeds shown if taken literally and not dramatized, meaning the Airmaster on Gold Nitro was making 350k horsepower, and on the Steamlight it could've been 10 times even that. Honestly, if that's all true, then JP, Sonoshee and Machinehead were well into the hypersonic range going up the Redline Mothership's spine to the finish line, its little wonder they were pressed into the seat not just from the acceleration force that got them going that fast and going faster, but also from the downward force that the ramp was making them feel as they pitched upward higher and higher. Then, its little wonder JP and Sonoshee got so much airtime after the Trans Am exploded, enough to nearly hanky panky while in the air, going so fast and protected by Redline's Supergrass magic aura from the hypersonic wind forces would've sent them halfway to the vacuum of space! The maths are bloody insane, but it only makes the movie that much more awesome to someone like me! XD

Now that sounds like an idea, perhaps I'll give it a shot, the optimizations Ange did in 0.14 should make the program handle it without sound lag, though I'm not sure if it would've been a problem before for most people, with my PC it would've since ES2D seemed to run oddly bad before 0.14, like my system just doesn't do well on the tasks that ES2D needs to run the simulation :P I should have it done relatively soon, then, I just have to finagle my 4 rotor into being twice as long and then realign the rotors.

Well, you are technically right, since although diesel wankel engines have been made, most of them weren't capable of running off a test bench, and the one that did didn't really go anywhere. There was hype in the early 2000s about the 2116R Rotary Rex engine, which was 11.6 liters and two rotors and made 1000 horsepower, or at least RPI said it did, but it never went into production due to its very high price and RPI kind of went defunct by 2011 after making smaller versions and not getting much traction from what I recall reading. I'm going with massive twin 50mm waste gates though! You put the soloid control in as another map into the ECU and tune in 3D keeping boost pressure as the constant 😉 where people think the rear housing is going to "choke" 🙄 it will never choke if you relieve that pressure like it's almost naturally aspirated? Its kinda does, doesn't it? Like a bit different in tone and a bit higher pitch but a bit Triton-like. Its probably the headers, I made the headers as close as I could to the ones on Jay Leno's 1934 Rolls-Royce Merlin, the big car with the big exposed headers, like the first cylinder on each bank is the main tube and as it goes down on a diagonal each of the next cylinders joins it before it exits to the main straight pipes under the running boards. Its an amazing car. Edit: Just comparing them now, I realize I did a few things wrong if I wanted to match Jay Leno's Merlin in sound, the way Engine Sim is calculating the header is by merging them all at one collector, it doesn't do log headers, so in essence the header on this thing looks like a long tube from the rear 4 cylinders of each bank entering portals and coming out by the collector which is attached directly to the front cylinders, and only then do the tubes combine, since the header tubes are only about as long as you see in Jay Leno's video, and the engine is longer, long enough that only cylinder two on each side could connect to a collector at cylinder one. Its a right mess, so its little wonder the sound isn't close to Jay Leno's Merlin.

LOL I know, its funny. However, it is theoretically possible, the engine of an 11000hp top fuel dragster puts out around 1100 pounds of downforce, which comes out to around 1905 pounds of total thrust given the pipes are angled out and back 45 degrees in each axis, so a 20000 horsepower engine at peak RPM would be putting out about 3464 pounds of thrust, which is 8.05% of the thrust output of the F-35 Lightning II, or 6.93% the thrust of the Thrust SSC land speed record vehicle, directed back out of the TransAm 20k's thrust-vectoring exhausts, which have Nitro-driven afterburners inside them like jet engines, because that's that they really are XD There's a surprising amount of plausible things in Redline, if you ignore the magic and the blatant violations of the laws of physics and look at the devices through the lens of realism instead of an epic animated film, its what I tried to do and I made this XD

@@mondrianman2169 I'm not sure if its ever stated what exactly each vehicle has to make them unique and absurdly fast, but if you look at the back of the original 20kHP TransAm, the exhausts are smooth but they seem to be like ball sockets, which implies the ability to rotate. At high speed, it would give decent yaw control, such as JP drifting around a corner and using the thrust to give him extra turning force, and after Sonoshee pulled ahead with her jet-powered Crab Sonoshee, JP hits the power on more and turns out of the drift, even though a normal vehicle in similar conditions would've spun out from oversteer, so I imagine JP has some kind of yaw pedal in the footwell that lets him control the angle of those exhausts. I enjoy taking things that are meant to be simply enjoyed by watching and diving into the possibilities of tech to replicate it, its why I'm a big Make It Real fan and watch every Hacksmith video, and the whole deal with JP's TransAm thrust vectoring gets better when the TRZ Airmaster is basically a hybrid radial piston-jet engine, a real thing called a Motorjet btw, except futuristic and making 35 thousand horsepower, and since it always has an afterburner on given the exhaust plume coming out the back of the TransAm 20000 WR, its putting out around 6061 pounds of dry thrust, and 9204 pounds of wet thrust with the afterburner assuming a similar ratio as the F35 Lightning II's F135 engine. @@Avetho It's been a bit but was just about to mention the Motorjet until I fully read the comment. My biggest issue with the Airmaster is where the hell are the intakes on this thing?! The only way they'd actually get it to work without intakes is having an oxidizer (which tbh is probably what all Redline racers use). The only other explanation is in the end of this video, kzbin.info/www/bejne/gGLXk4Wkf9qHr9Usi=mEpcKTZtkp8RJQqH the guy talks about modern Motorjet concepts, (you've probably watched it) and when a video graphic of one is shown it has these cylinder like objects that reciprocate, which might be for the bore sizes mentioned. In the movie when the trike chassis is exposed, you see intakes on the side which match with the 2 parallel bars in the movie (kzbin.info/www/bejne/n3fUlJWnjbCBhbMsi=-8IsSLVNeVmsaoD_). Other wise the parallel bars are 2 inlines that use an oxidizer or there are intakes that are not shown.

The V8 must be what is used to have very quick torque and acceleration and the Airmaster with its insane HP and RPM give the Trans Am its ludicrous speed. Also the turbine has to be more Gold Nitro friendly than a piston engine, we'll have to assume they're using an incredible alloy that prevents them from having a rapid and unscheduled disassembling. Temp and PSI should increase to max again much quicker than the first time. 8. Lower heat to 0%. 9. Wait. As temp starts to drop, PSI should soon follow and quickly create a vacuum. And with how many users were thanking them, it likely works reliably. Edit: I just tested it, after about 10 to 15 minutes after I messed around with how precise to get the process, I got it down to nearly -30 inHg. I recalled that I did some weird thing with the rotation of the steam engine when I got the achievement, but that was an earlier version of the game before Ange changed some things to make it a more realistic simulation than it already was.

There is a simpler way, just enable hell mode and heater until max psi and temp when it gets there just turn the heat to 0 and your done

Thats too stupid. A 12 Zyl. radial does not exist and if so, it wouldn´t work.

There are no four-row radial engines with three cylinders per row (which is what this model is intended to represent), but it would work as a conventional multi-row radial engine. A 12-cylinder radial also works with six cylinders per row and two rows aligned with each other (not staggered); the Curtiss H-1640 Chieftain was an example.

Why does it rev so high for a diesel? What's the gearbox like?

The gearbox is a 20 speed manual and it revs that high because I made the engine indestructible and used a performance engine block which changed the torque curve. Without making the engine indestructible, it would've grenaded itself easily, I never really intended for the engine to be realistic when I put this together XD

Sounds scary.

That it does, when you switch it into devil mode the whistle goes from the normal piercing shrill sound to more of a spooky howl, and the pressure rising and falling constantly sure doesn't help XD

That was dumb.
