Kentucky fan here. I've watched a couple of Tennessee games this year but not enough to know much about them like I know Kentucky obviously. Is it normal for Tennessee to shoot 41 threes? I don't remember seeing or hearing about them shooting like that this year.
@TheHouseofOrangeTN2 күн бұрын
No, it isn’t. That was the second most 3s they’ve taken in a game in school history. It seemed to me that Kentucky dared them to try to beat them from the outside and it worked.
@TheRCBuildersPost2 күн бұрын
@TheHouseofOrangeTN I thought it was out of the norm for Tennessee. I really expected this game to be a struggle for Kentucky being down our starting point guard, back up point guard and big man. That's hard for any team to overcome. I think the reason why this game went the way it did was because of how the first 5 minutes of this game went. Kentucky made those 4 threes to start the game going up 12-4 by the first TV timeout and it just felt like Tennessee panicked and got into a shooting contest with Kentucky.
@TheHouseofOrangeTN2 күн бұрын
@@TheRCBuildersPostYou could be right. Two things were uncharacteristic of Tennessee. The first was what we talked about with them taking so many 3s, the second is them leaving Kentucky wide open so many times. Credit to Kentucky for their ball movement and how they ran the offense because it caused a lot of problems.

Reinforcements are on the way. Appreciate the vid Frank So yeah Coach Kim is doing her best to maximize the talent on the team, but as you said, some of the players on the roster just don't fit, which is why I'm glad you're highlighting the incoming freshmen Caldwell's system is predicated on players who are both athletic and versatile, which is what the Pauldo twins, Civil, Prawl and Hurst all are. That's what Cooper, Whitehorn, Spencer, Boyd, Spearman and Latham all are. Every recruit that they've made offers to have these attributes The players on the team that I didn't mention are either not athletic enough or lack versatility in their game and this were the inconsistencies in the offense and defense stem from. Coach Kim has been making rotation adjustments to address some of these issues and certain players minutes have decreased because of their liabilities I know some fans are screaming for the Lady Vols to get some bigs to play in the post but that's not what Caldwell does. She runs a five out offense that's design for 3ptrs and driving the ball. Period. None of her teams have ever played thru the post and she doesn't recruit post players. Caldwell is trying to play fast not big and fans gotta keep that in mind So any big recruited and brought in would have to fit the aforementioned criteria. And I don't know if people have noticed but skilled bigs in womens basketball has become scarce, especially athletic ones. Most schools have to recruit internationally now to find skilled post players. Look at the recently released McDonalds All Americans. Out of the 24 players, only 2 are true bigs Now I agree that the Lady Vols need to add some size because Spearman and Latham won't be enough for next year but I also won't be surprised if Caldwell decides to play more small ball like her Glenville State teams because there might not be any players of size in the portal who fit her system With ALL that said, I still think this current team is dangerous and that they're playing with house money due to their preseason projection, so there's no shame in losing to these top ranked teams because I believe like other fans have said in that they'll be better come tournament time

It's always interesting to listen to opposing teams' KZbin channels or peak in on forums. As a Kentucky fan, we tend criticize our team in much the same way during stretches when the team isn't playing particularly well. Winning tends to mask over those things, but I think it just points to the fact that every team has its issues, both with its individual players and collectively as a team. I guess my point is that I am not as in tune with the issues of opposing teams until I get insight from the fan channels and such.

Great points Frank! This team is a hot and cold team when it comes to offense. But last night was probably the worst I've seen the defense play in giving up 3's. UK was heavily dependent on the 3 point shooting as they have been so far this season. Typically we handle those teams well but for whatever reason, we didn't adjust the defense right to counter them and we didn't shoot well enough again offensively to counter our issues. I'm not sure that just letting Lanier attempt 3 after 3 after 3 if he's not on is the right way to go. Spread teh ball around to see who has the hot hand. Last night, Igor seemed to be that guy but in the midst of it, they didn't do much to keep getting him the ball vs Lanier. Lanier is rushing his shots, evidenced by how far off the mark he was he missed and that was about 80% of the time last night. Same with Zachi. If we guarded their outside shooting better and concentrated more in the paint, I think we win this game handily. This was the most vulnerable UK team we've seen in a few years with some on sports 99.1 predicting a TN blowout over UK. Baffling and at home. Not sure what they aren't doing with Lanier that has made his 3 point shooting take this slide that continues. Ima, Lanier is rushing his shots and it's hurting his accuracy. Why isn't the staff correcting this with him? They can coach defense but improve shooting? This tells us that DK improved his 3 point shooting all by himself. Also, I still don't know why Mayshack is not putting up more offense and shots. When this guy misses, it's never by much and his 3-point percentage is pretty good. I get he's our D guy but anyone can see he has untapped offensive shooting ability and imo, probably in the top 3 on the team but we don't use his enough in this way.
@TheHouseofOrangeTN2 күн бұрын
You make a lot of good points. I feel Chaz is just settling for the 3, and like you said, he's rushing a lot of them, too. I've said the same about Mashack as well. I really feel he can be a 10-15 ppg scorer. It really seems that everything is to go through ZZ, Chaz, and Gainey, though. Hopefully they can bounce back this weekend, but it's definitely not going to any easier.
