Thanks for the video. As an adult learner do you need to earth the armour in the SWA?
@hackwoodelectrical
@hackwoodelectrical 6 күн бұрын
Yes. This can be done at either the supply or the load end, whichever is easier for you generally. This was taken into a HENSEL adaptable box with the PE metal inlay so that’s where it was earthed/bonded. Reason you have to bond it is if the cable gets damaged and the live core comes into contact with the armouring, the steel strands could become live… if they’re bonded they will short circuit and activate the OCPD

Best to, incase a digger or shovel hit the outdoor SWA Cable, the short circuit from the earthed armour will cut the power before any internal circuit or appliances are damaged. I hope that made sense 😅

SPD is not needed in domestic dwellings,how many domestic properties have incurred a power surge,i was a sparks for 50 years and never came across 1 case of voltage surge so its just the industry trying to make money out of home owners,also this torgue is bullshit,there are far more connections on any circuit than is at the consumer unit yet the industry is not calling for all electrical connections to be torgued on an electrical circuit which tells me its just another case of bullshit and money making scheme yet you sparks fall for it
@hackwoodelectrical
@hackwoodelectrical 6 ай бұрын
I do agree with torque settings… bit bloody ridiculous considering, as you say, all the other connections in an installation. But if worst was to happen and you had to defend yourself you can produce the tool, produce the calibration cert for it. For SPD I have mixed feelings on that… sensitive equipment is becoming more and more prevalent in homes. For the relatively small cost that SPDs now add to the cost of a DB upgrade I think they’re worth installing.

Hi I am trying to get my head around a problem. I have an led light bar rated at 860 w alledgidly. I am also using an ac dc transformer, when I put my watt meter on the 240v side it reads 80 watts ish. Is there a drop in wattage between 240 volt and 12 volt or is it as I suspect the unit is approximately 10 times less in wattage. Regards Martin steele

I Never plaster mainly because i am not a plasterer i always let the customers know this beforehand. Plastering may look easy but if its not done right when its painted it looks 10 times worse. In this instance let the plasterers do the repair after all its not like your paying for them is it.

Knockouts on the back were a nightmare for me to get out when I fitted one last year, deformed the db i had to hit it that hard also you can't see the torque sticker once all cables go in. It should go on the inside of lid maybe. The're my 2 issues with it. All good everything else.

Get yourself a teflon foam gun and some low expansion foam this is by far the best way to stabilise plaster around a socket. The gun makes the application completely controllable, you don't need loads and you can leave the foam in the gun for 2 years without issue.

I was reading on the ie website where a guy was training to be an electrical inspector and he was failed for testing at the shower unit, when he asked what he failed he was told you only inspect upto the pull switch. I personally test at the shower and check for loose wires or burning. I've subscribed.

Well done on your first video . Not a bad EICR, one point though it is not strictly necessary to zero the test leads, if you don’t it’s not a problem you can deduct the leads resistance from the test result , but it is easier to zero the leads if you can remember not all testers have a zero function. Good luck l enjoyed this video nice to see someone get on with the job in hand and not spending half his time talking to the camera.👍👍

Happened to me a lot until i started using the variable speed setting on my rotary drill and started using lower speeds more frequently, not to mention i'd do other nasty things like puncture existing conduit which was ofc a nightmare, nowadays i just use high speed for the initial crack, switch to low speed immediately after and then sometimes will do the finishing with a manual hammer and chisel just to get more control, though i do this more often when i know there's existing conduits in the area
