Another thing I seen was promoting the wrong people. Shitbags going under the radar only acting like a soldier when the right people are around and not awarding the people that actually work. Kills your work ethic.

For long distance running i found interval worked best for me, i would just do 1/4 mile intervals at a quick jog with an 1/8th mile walking rest. I found it nice because it built up my endurance surprisingly quickly and it was easy to do multiple times a day and keep doing it consistently because it wouldn’t make me sore in the morning, not the most strenuous but it worked well. To build speed i would just run a little faster than usual. I am fairly strong leg wise but for everything else (i do this daily) i tend to do 1 minute of plank(on my forearms), 25 pushups, 25 situps, and then i just climb stuff cause i find it fun cause i know only 3 others that can also do it

Do everything possible to not make enemies, even if you have to eat your own pride once in a while. You are going to spend 6 months with the same people, doing just about everything together, and the attitude that those people have towards you is going to make a big difference. I'm not saying you have to be friends, but someone not hating you is going to help you, possibly hook you up. Which brings me to contraband lol. Do NOT get caught with it. There is not a nook or cranny in the bay that the Cadre doesn't know about. In the second half of OSUT, you will notice a shift in the Cardes attitude where they become mentors more than disciplinaries and you will get to talk to Drill Sgts in a less formal manner. When you start getting caught with contraband or doing things you aren't supposed to, the Cadre will lose their trust in you as a Soldier and treat you like its week one again. They might even come down on the whole Platoon or Company for your screw ups. Finally, you will be set up to fail, you will be pushed to your physical limits. They don't care if you fail some things, what they are looking for is your resolve. They want to see you eat that failure and keep pushing. Last tip: learning the Soldier/Infantry songs and creeds before going in keeps you out of getting smoked at the DFAC early on. Good luck.

I'm middle eastern and the recruiter is trying to push me into 12B.... How would yall feel about that. Probably be hype asf there's a Persian handling your explosives, but not so much out of the field knowing the sand-digger has explosive improvising knowledge.

I know this is an older video, but this is still some great advice. As I type this comment, it's January 2025. Early September 2024, I decided on wanting to join the Navy as soon as I graduate college in December 2025. So, I spoke with my doctor, my college's dietitian, and and a personal trainer to get started on fitness (I did a single session to discuss habits and workouts I could do on my own). After that, I started keto and working out 5-6 days a week. Now, a few months later, I've gone from 225lbs to 173lbs. I have another 13lbs to go before I'm at military standards, but I'm hoping to get down to 155lbs eventually so I'm slightly under the max weight for my height. It's possible people. Just keep at it. Stay motivated. If joining the military is something you truly want to do, you have to be ready and willing to put in the work to get there.

I’m turning 29 in the spring and have decided to join. On one hand I’m kicking myself for not joining straight out of school or when I struggled to find work after Covid. On the other hand, I’m much more mature now mentally. I know exactly what I want to do and I’m focused. Younger me lacked confidence, would have been easily manipulated, and likely end up struggling with the sexual harassment. Young women in the military are easy targets for sexual harassment. I know how to say no now.

28 here, went to meps in December for the guard but have since decided to go active instead. Just have to wait on a waiver for a minor knee surgery to go through and I’m in. Pray for me yall that this waiver goes through with no issues and I can go airborne/infantry as that is my dream. God I need this to work out so badly 🙏 pray pray pray!!!!!

I am drawn to joining because I feel like there will be tons of cool lore to have in my brain. Not only that, but I see it as an opportunity to get independant from living at home with my dad. I am thankful for the house, but I need to venture out on my own. Eventually I'll get the VA homeloan when I join and I'll get the GI bill to go to school. I don't want to take out student loans for school. I see the military as a way to pay for my school, get in PT God shape, and just learn how to survive. I'm drawn to SERE Specialist, and I like that they have a pretty cool outdoor survial type mission. I also feel like joining and serving honorably would give me some credibility as a man. I am 20 and I have essentially zero of that unless it comes to fishing or one of my hobbies.

Went to basic in 2022 and was told by my recruiter to lie about a blood disorder I had called vonwillebrand. Ended up confessing during the moment of truth at Ft. Jackson reception and was told multiple times I was going to recieve a waiver and continue to basic. Some time later they ended up just sending me through after requesting for my medical records and all seemed fine for a while. One sunday there was a blood drive that most of the company went to including me, only I was excluded and told I couldn't draw blood due to my disorder and the sgt who explained this to me also mentioned I shouldn't even be in with this condition. Ended up getting told by my senior drill to go to sick call on Monday and when I did I got the news I was getting a general discharge 3 weeks before graduation. Telling my platoon this info wasn't easy and especially my parents when we recieved phone time. Suprisingly I got a lot of sympathy from the other platoon drill sgts who told me it was a little fucked up for them to lie to me at Ft. Jackson and even leonardwood that I would be getting a waiver. Judging by my leadership's reaction to my situation it seemed like I was much more of a priority in comparison to the refusal to train holdovers and eventually got sent home a lot quicker than they did. Heart wrenching to finally gather the courage to do something in your life to only get shot down so quick and lose the people you grew a close relationship with during basic. To those getting shipped or talking to a recruiter, don't lie and don't worry, basic gets 10x easier once you build that comradery with others.
