My experience in BCT was Being stuck on red phase all the way until my class got to week 6, cause ppl kept snitching and going to sleep in a class section all the time. 😂 But all jokes aside, for anyone who’s going to bct, just put all the negative shit & snitching shit to the side. Because at the end of the day, your PLT or the whole damn company is gonna get fucked up. That’s just the way it is. Just be there at the right place, right time & right uniform and you’ll be straight solider.

Ok i went to basic Feb 1982 and alot has changed since then obviously BUT alot has stayed the same. My advice is DON't go to basic without being in shape FIRST! I was a high school athlete and in great shape but on top of that i trained hard prior to basic and my entire time in the military i never fell out of PT in 6 years regular Army and 3 years National Guard. Also while in basic i developed a bad upper respiratory infection and i was scared shitless of being recycled even though i was coughing all night for a week or more and pissing off my platoon. My drill sgt made me go to sick call which i got some BS cough syrup and drops.My point is if you are in good shape physical training is hard at times but not as tough as my high school football training.Thank god in 1982 we didn't have cell phones or the internet in this way home sickness was gone quickly and we were all focused on the tasks at hand TO PASS BASIC TRAINING! For me weapons qualifying was scary for me at first i had problems zeroing my M-16 due to the fact you have to control your breathing and heartrate by relaxing when pulling the trigger.In the end i made expert 37/40 and i missed the last 2 out of being overly confidant which made me screw up. Final comment if you want to be a soldier you will be. Drill instructors are not there to make you give up they want to get the 110% we all have inside to make it. Millions of people passed basic why can't you?I have a hand full of Army buddies on facebook and all we chat about is those few years decades ago together and how we miss those times.I forgot to mention i have my Basic training platoon photo on the wall near me and i remember most in the photo even though we were together for a few months. In permanent party i was with some units for 2 years and i can't remember many of the guys names what does that tell you about the bond you develop in basic?

Just a heads up for older recruits, if you’re use to being around older people it’s a huge culture shock. The Drills will also see this and may even tell your squad mates that everyone has to help each other. and if one of your guys doesn't understand it will be the squads job to help them understand. I'm leaving for basic soon and I'm 37. I am really worried that my body might not be able to take it.
@golfery51198 ай бұрын
I don't know why you didn't look at that before you made that decision at your age. If anything at 37 years old you probably should have joined the Air Force instead of the Army. The Army is not only more physical, but the Army is more of a headgame as well since the Army treats its enlisted people more like children compared to the Air Force does (that's basically what a soldier is. A soldier has to be treated like a little kid by his superiors in order to be told what to do and be a body, the Air Force has to treat its people with more maturity because booksmarts and technical skills are valued more). You should have asked around before just jumping into the Army at your age. Hopefully for your sake, you chose to do national guard/reserves instead of active duty, and if you were stupid enough to go active duty Army, I hope you at least got into a MOS that is rarer and more likely to not be in the FORSCOM aspect of the Army.

Don't fail rifle qual that's what got me

I was one of just two males who struggled the most in my company.. finally one of the drill Sergeants in my company literally was there with me and helped me aim the rifle. I'm serious. He said "here, aim for the dick" ( all I kept hearing up till then was "center mass" so I kept aiming for the chest, but that wasn't knocking the balloons down. But "aim for the dick" basically still center mass, but going lower, actually helped me knock enough down). I don't know if he was allowed to do that, but I'm glad he finally did. I finally got 24. Oh well. The other male and the , if I remember, something like four females left also eventually passed. I was so concerned when I kept repeatedly failing the weapons qual that I was going to get recycled and not graduate on time. Ive been in for six years now and I am still a horrible shooter. The most ive shot was 35, but those were paper targets. But when I do balloons I still "aim for the dick " and it still gets me just enough knock downs to qualify.

55D here, I loved the Army until my kiwi assist. We used to shine our boots back then. I entered in before the beret’s, we were authorized to wear jungle boots. I wore BDU’s and we had to have our uniforms crisp. 😀 I loved it! Kiwi assist is being “kicked out”..😒 I miss EOD.

I always thought the most difficult thing in Amy Basic was getting up in time for brunch on Sunday. Semper Fi bitches.

I was in PLDC with a Ranger. He taught me too do push ups whenever I had time. It didn’t take much time to dramadically increase the number I could do.

I’m wondering this too.. I went back in 2015, but I was a kid and didn’t take any with me, but I am reenlisting right now and have been taking several supplements regularly for years now and always feel “off” when I don’t take them, so am wondering if I could bring them as ling as they were still fully sealed and unopened.. I feel like I’m pretty sure it is a no go and I don’t want to have to throw them away when I get there after spending all that money on them. 😩

Gosh I am shocked about the boots. 1966 MCRD San Diego we had civilian that measured our size and checked the arches. The boots were stiff but we had the same me boots as the Army.

I got in at age 31 and went to bootcamp at age 32. I love pt. In the late 1980s. Fort jackson had a physical fitness center. I made it. I graduated March 1989. There was no hard time for me.

I think for me, it's going to be some of the tall obstacles. I'm 4'11 and worry I'm not tall enough to get myself over some walls...
@kaleloveandflowers96972 ай бұрын
I don’t know if you left or not yet, but, I’m also 4’11” and went back in 2015! I was super worried too and, yeah, it was obviously harder for me than the taller people, but it actually wasn’t that hard getting over the obstacles! The hardest thing being short is keeping up with all the tall people in formation when they don’t put all the shorter people up front. 😅

There were a few things hard for me. I was 19 and it was my first time away from home. So, there was home sickness the first few weeks. My feet hurt all the time and the road marches were brutal on them. After about a month, my feet toughened and didn’t hurt until that final road march. I struggled with pushups. I was in decent shape going in, but I just don’t naturally have good upper body strength. After a few weeks, my body just started to be able to do push-ups. I think being in decent shape allowed my body to adapt to those new demands pretty quickly. I was doing cardio and weights before I went in. There’s also the intimidation factor. The drill sergeants were initially a bit intimidating, but after a few weeks to a month, you start to find them funny and see through the act. Overall, it’s really all about being in decent physical condition and having a good attitude going in. Most people with those two things will adjust and do fine.
