Use proper roof tiles instead of roofing your house like a shed, then you can attach panels without piercing the roof covering.

Very good presentation. I am not an electrician but I am planning to install my own residential backup system and you answered some of my questions. Your enthusiasm for your subject matter is refreshing. Carry on 🙂

A topic that I'm hearing more and more about is when you've invested into solar to save money on your electric bill and the home owner insurance re-assess your home and raises the fee on your policy because you have solar, your savings just vaporized.

Good Video. Net metering is a joke. Our EMC will not credit you more than 0.03 KWH and you must purchase a minimum monthly amount of grid power at 0.15 cents a KWH. You would need to produce 5 kwh per every kwh used from the grid. Also, my EMC requires standby fees ($45) Also, my EMC has no Service Level Agreement, it is common to be without power for days.

I think the only thing I would add would be high voltage signs and operating instructions. What if you're not there and someone else has to shut the system down? Make sure they have a good picture book for dummies. Getting your perspective of the industry gives me more insight into why so many companies have failed. After building my own system from scratch I've learned that the solar industry has really gotten a bad rap from home owners. It's not being utilized to it's full potential and all of these roof leases and roof nightmares are destroying customer confidence. I prefer pole mounted or south wall mounted panels as they're easier to clean and adjust. It's also easier to protect the panels during storms by turning them flat to the wind or covering them w/ plywood. You're not going to be hauling plywood up to the roof. You'll just replace what gets broken. Now you have to match those panels. Good luck.

what are the best install systems to use on a shingled roof for panel attachment ?

I love the content! I'm a commercial commissioning manager so I'm on the "inspection" / QC end of the spectrum. I built a split-phase hybrid system for back-up power to my Mom's well pump in 2020. I've added battery and solar capacity along with a separate Victron controller. It's now a self sustaining solar system running the pump. My only regret is not having the money for a larger inverter. It's only 3k so it only does the pump. Now I'm looking at 10k inverters.

my friend has solar panels - they had put on a new roof were the panels would go - imagine that it doesn’t save the roof from damage - dam ugly

I look forward to the day when there is an infinitely modular microinverter system where: each microinverter has a wide range of panel voltage and current compatibility; is able to provide power even if another manufacturer's microinverter is also connected to the system; doesn't require any form of wireless communication; is able to provide power indefinitely without an internet connection to a cloud service; can be locally monitored; is able to form its own grid when utility power fails; and, where each microinverter can charge its own panel-local battery so that it can spread out its power collection from one sunny day following by 2 cloudy days before the battery is depleted. If wishes were horses.

Question for all the experts… I’ve got an opportunity to purchase (8) solaredge se6000 and se7600h inverters for $2500. They are brand new. I’m a diy guy. Looking to put solar on my house (gridtie). I’m in Nevada (lots of sun and very hot. Should I buy them or am I just asking for problems? I have 50 brand new silfab lk410 panels. I’ll need to get the optimizers for the Solaredge inverters. I don’t want to make a huge mistake.

I waited until I got a standing seam metal roof before adding solar. Zero rooftop penetrations. Works great, no worries about water leaks.

I honestly don’t think 10 years for a well designed and installed solar system is a great investment. When you consider the initial installation cost and a payback of 8 years that’s only 2 years of positive cash flow.

But you still put a big ass hole in the roof. Panels dont last forever, they last a shocking short period of time.

I had one, I said in the car, in 15 minutes the car started and I pould the starter out of the cigarette lighter. It was great but then one of my neighbors dropped it. They do not have the same one but they do have one that is called Mighty Jump that works just as well
