So many comments from our Italian friends! and so many "first car" stories!. My first car was also a (green) 850 Sport Coupe, that I bought in Lygon Street in about 1981 (from a falafel shop). I later put in a 12A rotary, driving through a VW Superbug transaxle and VW/Mini Minor CV joint axles. Radiator up the front. A fuel tank under each seat. Sold it to a 'kid' in Melbourne (Australia) in 1986 or 87. Saw it 3 months later on his nature strip with minor crash damage. Never heard of again.

what did you use for your rear axle u-joints. Building a Fiat 850 coupe with my 124 twin cam reverse rotation engine that I used in my 850 spider race car. Your car is beautiful!!!!
@Tony-pr7te4 ай бұрын
Thank you for your comments ! I used a Fiat 124 tail-shaft (propshaft) centre uni joint which is splined, and had a thicker axleshaft made in 4140 material. The uni joint is then secured to the new shaft with a locknut, the same way it’s attached to the original tailshaft. This was then adapted to a machined Fiat Regata 100 s front hub, which has the same spline to suit the original 850 short shaft. Some machining and drilling needed to make it all work together. It’s been reliable and more than up to the job. Good luck with your project.

@@Tony-pr7te Thank you very much! Now to accomplish it, which will be fun :) A Fiat Regata 100 was not sold in the US so that will be an interesting find on the internet.You make things sound kinda simple, but I know the research and time spent on making things work has been a challenge. Having sheared off about 3 rear axles and shattering 4 sets of spider gears the gear box has been my weakest link. No issues with the engine, runs like a champ!
@Tony-pr7te4 ай бұрын
@@againstthetimes Yep, you are right. Lots of head scratching and experimenting getting there ! Very satisfying when it all comes together though. After doing some laps at Sandown race track I discovered a way too big a drop from 3rd to 4th, so a 5 speed or taller 3rd would better suit my car. I don’t normally track day the car so I’m just going to live with it for now. Good luck with it all !

@@Tony-pr7te I have a close ratio 3rd and 4th gear, straight cut weber gears on my gearbox. It defiantly has gear whine. My 4th gear is one to one, no overdrive that the stock gearbox has. With 22 inch tall slicks, whatever my rpm was was my top speed. I have run 5/57 rear end, 77 mph at 7700 rpm roughly, with the 4/11 I hit around 108 mph at 8000. The 5/57 rear end was about 5 seconds 0-60 mph, great for hillclimbs that were steep, not so great for shallow ones. This with my 124 twin cam engine. My 850 motor had 940cc and needed the 5/57 rear end. My 850 spider still has the record at the Hoopa Hillclimb in the states with that combo in H prod class. The hill climb is no longer unfortunately. You can get close ratio 3rd and 4th gears that have to be welded on and the layshaft gears in Europe, forgot who had them, they will not whine as they are not straight cut. All the 5 speed gearboxes are no longer as I have been looking for one for years.

What engine does she have? If original, what mods have been done? She's a real beaut!
@Tony-pr7te4 ай бұрын
Thanks Jerome !. There is a big list of mods, however, the main ones on this 1969 850 Sport Coupe are the modified Abarth 1049 cc motor, rear disc brakes, driveshafts with outer uni joints, modified and lowered suspension, and a redesigned front end to cater for the front mounted radiator, with a deliberate nod to the OT 2000 Coupe series 1 from the mid 1960’s.👍

Nice to see an Abarth. and I was at Sandown back in the 1960s! I've had a Fiat 600, 850, 850 Coupe and a 124 - seemed to have head gasket problems quite often - but I was a young man then, and pushed them rather hard! Now I've got a 2019 Abarth 595, it's great! Greetings from Sweden.

Come mai ??

@GTE_Channel2 жыл бұрын
I believe the 2nd tank was an option. Info on the differences are contradicting, I believe the Cooper and Cooper S are near identical. The S might have better disc brakes than the Cooper. The S, being a later car, maybe has bigger capacity engine. But I'm not sure. The S badge is usually associated with a rally homologation type of a car.
