With regards to the attitude of people in the fajin project and imitating the behaviour of those at the top, I’m pretty sure that would make Jason’s teacher (who I’m sure you said was Alex Dong) the ‘ceo’. I have several screenshots of him insulting me and others and his offer of setting his ‘full contact’ students on people. No one can take the moral high ground from the gutter.

Good interview. Where me and Jason disagreed over fascia is that he was saying that tendons and ligaments are fascia. When I used links to show that they weren’t, he told me that it doesn’t matter and it’s all the same thing. That’s not how that works. If I went to a doctor to get my acl repaired and he said he was going to replace my tendon, then when I pointed out they’re not the same thing, he said that it doesn’t matter because they’re all the same thing, I would want another doctor.

Just a few things: Wilson Pitts was the first teacher in the park. He was director of Tao experience foundation. David Walls-kaufman was the competitor who can make people fly under pressure. Last question i got confused on Fu Shenyuan (FSY) getting the goods, i thought he was talking about James Fu. Yes FSY was groomed for the job by Fu Zhongwen and trained with many great Taiji uncles like Niu Chunning, Cui Yishi, Wu Tunan, just to name a few. Forest Chang and C.P. Ong brought Chen taijiquan teachers to Washington DC area.

Alan misrepresented his style of arguing and his own reasonableness. Naturally he thinks of himself as more reasonable than he actually is. I blocked him on facebook after an interaction about a jon jones spinning elbow video. I pointed out the flaws with using the technique and that in many circumstances it is easily blocked and makes you vulnerable to chokes or strikes to the back of the head. Alan’s response was to claim (and abusively repeat) that i said i was a better fighter than jon jones and that i thought i could kick jon jones ass. Those were not assertions that i made. So he is blocked because he doesnt want to engage with what people actually say. An honest part of this video is where he admits he’s not really interested in connecting with people who may have had different experiences than himself. Most people dont have interest in engaging with someone whose intention is to look for ways to embarrass. Instead of seeing the lack of engagement as a problem that Alan should fix in the pursuit of knowledge, Alan sees the lack of engagement as evidence that his perspective is correct. It’s self-reinforcing…. One might even say it’s a form of self-hypnosis. “I am right because nobody wants to play with me and prove me wrong.” The lack of curiosity about why people arent engaging and the disinterest in resolving the issues to pursue knowledge is clear. The taoist style of nei gong training i learned is not at all like what Alan described here (not physically intense the way he described). And that’s okay. But it highlights how diverse the martial arts world is and how important it is to be truly open to different perspectives.

This was a good and respectfully done video. I think there needs to be more curiosity about why things may not work all the time. It’s not like attempting to punch people has the same effect on everyone (due to differences in body mass, defense skills, evasion skills, etc). I think the last few minutes, where hypnosis is discussed and what is possible under newtonian physics or quantum mechanics are some areas to explore in greater detail. The thing about hypnosis is that “susceptible” means “willing”. For hypnosis to work you have to want it to work. Also, hypnosis doesnt work instantly or every time. Your own stresses and amount of exposure affect the likelihood you will experience something again. It is entirely possible under hypnosis to create triggered muscular reactions. Triggers can come from almost anywhere. I have experienced a spontaneous triggered mental and muscular reaction in response to seeing an emoji. But at the same time, having experienced “qi” emission and having experienced hypnosis, i can say it absolutely wasnt hypnosis in my case , because the room was silent the first time i experienced it, and there was no warning or prior demonstration or training about what was going to happen… and everyone in the room experienced it. I think the statement that qi isnt possible or explainable with newtonian physics or quantum mechanics is actually a lazy and unsupportable assertion. Just because you may not have the explanation doesnt mean an explanation is impossible. It may be accurate to say that nobody thus far that you are aware of has explained it using those frameworks, but that statement is of course limited to your own personal perspective. I think it’s important to maintain the humility that your own perspective isnt automatically correct. There may be explanations that you simply havent entertained or been exposed to. It is well documented that living things emit energy (heat, light, sound, electricity, and other forms of energy). It is entirely possible that measuring qi is simply difficult, in the same way that understanding whale communication is inherently a difficult task.

Thanks for writing such a long and thoughful reply. Could I ask about which teacher you experienced the chi emission? Would you be interested in discussing this experience further? Good to listen to two people like Matt stampe and Mike Graves, who were not whining, promoting themselves, denouncing people other than themselves, or plain just talking horse shit. Look let's be crystal clear push hands is not fighting, it was designed nourish fight training ability ie san sou. So let the big talkers take their challenge and enter the octagon, show us your 'real' fighting taiji beyond entry level. Put your money where your mouth is, we'll watch. Instead of wanting to have your name in lights/make a name for yourselves by challenging those who are focusing on other aspects of taiji or busy being successful doing what they are doing. To the 'woo' brigade who are promoting fight capability without fight conditioned taiji, line up go get their first good hiding, they deserve it. Take a good hard look at Nate Diaz, at under 40 years old can hardly string a coherent sentence together let alone apply a low level logic, just imagine what he'll be like at 50 or 60 years old, in a nursing home, is this who the big talkers aspire to be? Let's be clear MMA has rules, street fighting does not. Decide what you want from taiji and go for it, that may change and hopefully it does, remember the symbol that underlies taiji is yin/yang, that of change. The best example of taiji wrestling for my money was Mario Napoli (trained by his Judo/CMC taiji coach) when he won in China, in the 'modern era' nothing comes close. My background from the age of 10 was Judo, absolutely love it, ground fighting was my forte, applying neck chokes (Kesa and Kata katama) and won junior championships, Taiji came later. My long time student of 23 years goes and 'plays' with Wing Chun guys and does exceptionally well against them, and they want to know what fight training he has had, which absolutely none, only CMC 37 Yang 108, White Quick Fist and the lower 18 hands of which we do about 9, and body conditioning ie taking hits.

Same as my FB response to your same statement 🙏🏾 Steffan, 🤣, so I've been out & about today and wasn't able to properly respond to your complete misquote of my statements from the interview; in fact, if someone was to only read your statements and not view the interview for themselves they would be completely misguided by your declaration. Although it was a compound question, the part I directed my answer was to - "what's your take on Qi and Qigong and the usefulness of that kind of training" My response (summation): "...I don't discount the Qigong practice...I use it as part of my curriculum [in my university classes]" Next part of the question, "In terms of fighting, you don't think you can knock people over with Qi power...?" My response, jokingly: "oh - no, no I do it all the time..." More serious, sincere response: "No I don't believe in that at all, in that aspect...[speaking of knocking out someone with 'Qi powers']"! I then continued on with my viewpoints of the benefits of the practice. In addition, I will provide feedback from my actual class & students, which has been shared publicly to indicate there's no contradiction in my statement. Of course, it still stands that we can have a great convo on the subject in detail once we grace each other's presence! Pay attention: we all have Qi = bio electrical energy that keeps us alive. Learn any internal style well and you will develop Jin = what most call internal/intrinsic energy, From here various drills and forms develop both the Jin and the frame your doing. Next obviously is Fa Jin or release of force / explosive force. Now again drills and forms that you practice using fa Jin. Whole body is sung and anchored by the stance. The frame/posture is used by being compressed into the ground. Then you can quickly release that compressed force generated through ur weapon : fist , elbow, knees etc. It’s like putting water in a hose (length is subjective here) that has bends and twist in it. Snap that hose like a whip and release the water at the same time. That sudden rush of water hits hard and can reassert itself just like waves in the ocean. Back to the hose which functions in this example as the body from foot to chosen weapon. If the path is shorter you naturally can produce the same force that used to have a longer path to the opponent. The real skill is to manipulate one’s Jin to fit the circumstances as we will it. I might die before I get to that part. I’m 63 formerly started summer of 95’ joined Baltimore Tai Chi Chuan Study Association Founded by Dr. John Wan-Yuin Chang
