Flanders has an edge economically, architecturally, demographically, linguistically, (Walonia did not make dutch a mandatory course whilst French is thought from grade school onwards in Flanders) entrepreneurially, ... (wallonia does have an edge in terms of nature, mineral ressources (not exploited anymore right now but still available,...) and perhaps has more room to grow trough investments previous governments failed to do, truly it is PS domminance that kept the region poor but that has changed recently) in terms of brewing we are about equal in quallity, same with cooking.

I’m 2 months alcohol free, 34yo M from England, was a middle lane drinker, maybe a beer or 2 after work, maybe not, then 8 drinks at the weekend. More in my clubbing days. I started to trial not drinking to help with my sleep. And after I month with great sleep I knew I didn’t want to go back and mess up this streak. I feel great, I didn’t realise my last beer was my last beer and I think there’s something poetic in that.

Drinking has become very expensive particularly with the increase in the cost of living. I can't afford it anymore.

Bottom line for me was when I admitted to myself that it was the most boring pastime I'd ever done. It went from fun in my teens, twenties, and thirties, to sitting alone drinking, numb to everything. Where's the fun in that? I wasn't miserable because I didn't feel anything. Just a blank minded empty vessel. It's like being dead. I'm glad I didn't get to the stage of horrible events or shaking, but it would have eventually happened because it was getting to the stage of weeks at a time. One day I spotted a girl I'm absolutely crazy about, and that opened something up that I'd forgotten about. Pretty hard to keep on drinking a load of numbing crap when your mind and soul is starting to remember old and deep emotions.

Although I never developed alcohol dependency,I could never have one or two drinks. I rather not have it all. I do better with alcohol breaks than cutting back. Now after regular heavy drinking in my 20s and early 30s then occasionally moderate drinking the years afterwards, I rather be a non drinker now that I'm in my late 50s.

I've found out the hard way from my last drinking session 2 and a half months ago, definitely not. I cannot stress how much definitely not. After 20 odd years i now know how bad this stuff really is. I wouldnt admit it to myself before because i only drank socially on weekends. But i never kept it moderate and although these depressants bring a temporary buzz and do make you feel good at the time, and the nights were good with friends and in a nice venue with a good atmosphere, all that stuff, those nights were met with very bad hangovers, then after the hangovers low moods and anxiety issues days after until normally the next weekend. So just keeps that negative cycle going and going. I had some good times with my friends but it got to a point where my head couldnt handle it any longer. The anxiety from the last time i had any was beyond terrible. To the point where I'm scared to have another drop now it was that bad. I'm feeling better than i was but still not great. So nope definitely not worth it at all!

I would have to say it is not worth it. I haven’t found anything that beneficial from it. I guess a buzz, but I have a ton of fun going out, I find ways to completely relax. I can do it all with out the anxiety, the possible cancer, heart disease, dementia, the risk of addiction.and a bunch of other potential destructive things. And I am setting an example to my kids that life is great without ingesting poisonous toxins.

Another overlooked detail, Gruit or Gruut beers have been rediscovered and are sold again. E.G.: there is a brewery in Gent city who's brewer worked with the local university to figure out how to make beer without hops but with Gruut. Personally I really like their dark version, which you really can't tell it's without hop but still has a rich and complex flavor. There are other breweries in Belgium who also produce hop-less beers as well as these days in all kinds of other countries

In the seventies only a few industrial beer brewers were left from the once many lical breweries. But in the eighties the first pioneers of the craft beer started brewing. Without these pioneers we would not have the many breweries we have today.

Great video. More prominently the affinity to beer can be attributed majorly to its historical significance. Dating even before Sengoku period, when local warlords in Japan used to hold big parties during special occasions, before a big war, etc. The warlords used to drink alcohol, mostly made from rice with his subordinates. These warlords were called Bushi, who were later called Samurai. They used to have massive parties with drinking and eating through out the day. This was a major influence on modern Japanese drinking culture, this is a major aspect for the creation on modern Nomikai where colleagues go for a drink after work to improve teamwork and mutual bond.

Who drinks the most beer in the world?..... ME!!!! 530 beer cans per year (average adult you said) divided by 365 days is only about 1.5 beers per day. SOOOOO.... Since I drink about about 8 beers per day, x 365 days = 2.920, 12oz cans a year. So about 274 gallons (1037.2 liters). That's roughly 10 Hectoliters! What do I win other than Liver disease? lol :( GAWD!!! someone please check my math? ) I just might have an alcohol use disorder.

More factual errors. Lambic and Geuze style beers are much much older than the 19th century as they are remnants of the practice of spontaneous fermentation. Do you actually know anything about historical research or beer, because all these videos contain a lot of errors.

The Reinheitsgebot is not active any more. It was ditched in the 70's and Brewers can add anything to their brew and still call it beer. Many brewers still produce beer in the spirit of the Reinheitsgebot, but they are not held to it. Also the interpretation that "malt" is mentioned in the gebot is false. It specifically mentions barley, which means that wheat beers were technically not beer under the gebot, which is all the law stated. If you deviate, you can not call it beer, but yet under special permission brewers could.
