Normally I don't have time for people who see luxury items and say "I can get one just as good at WalMart." But in the case of that Balenciaga gown, they're right.

Thank you for this. Has confirmed for me to not spontaneously buy Balenciaga until i can closely examine in their shop. Love the brand though and I’m looking forward to their next runway show

Words like satin and crepe are real but they are for describing the type of weave, not the fiber.

I don't understand how buttons are sewn on sometimes. A few times I would be able to just pull on the loose end of the thread and the thread comes out completely. It's like it was a bad machine stitch.

So u actually spent 3000 dollars on a dress? Did you return it? If not thats crazy. The zara dress is worth max 10 dollars and the balenciaga one cost max 20 bucks to make

the way my jaw dropped when i saw those raw seams!!!!!
@doglover1neo2 күн бұрын
Raw hem is common in expensive dresses. They do it in thicker knit fabric to minimize bulk. And maximize profits.

I'm not surprised. Balenciaga does a lot of gimmicky stuff, like the leather IKEA bag, the towel shirt, etc. Just basd on that I would say they don't respect their customers.
@bohemiansusan28972 күн бұрын
I'm not surprised by the quality of the Balenciaga dress. About twenty years ago, I tried on a pair of Prada trousers at a store. The seam came apart due to awful quality thread. Many of these pieces are made in China without much oversight. The mark up is outrageous! Made in China can very from great to awful. That depends on the oversight.

One of our teachers in fashion school brought a vintage Chanel coat for us to look at and I was actually shocked at the finishings. The outside was exquisite and obviously very well made with a high quality, expensive tweed, but the inside was almost COMPLETELY unfinished. Our teacher told us that was pretty commonplace which threw me for a loop, though I have to assume it was made solely as a runway piece and not ready to wear (but maybe that’s too optimistic lol)
@debless9Күн бұрын
Could indeed be a runway piece.

Maybe a dupe the balenciaga dress. Might be difficulte to verify if it is really from Balenciaga. That might explain the poor quality of the dress

I'm not a fashion enthusiast but this channel has educated me much about garment craftsmanship even just by looking into minor details of a piece of clothing. It helps me understand more the clear difference between fast fashion and bespoke pieces and why one is really worth your money. Looking forward to more contents. Keep it up!

In the late 70s/early 80s I knew a number of girls who made or whose mothers made their dresses, and the dresses were honestly of as good quality- some a lot better- than what I saw on this video. I was shocked by the low quality of just the fabric, but part of the problem is that some people want a certain "look" or silhouette and don't care if the fabric is Halloween-costume quality. It doesn't have to be that way. I just saw some silk taffeta for $50 a yard. (I'm actually not a big fan of silk, some silk doesn't hold up so well.) Even at that price, a person could probably make a wedding dress for less than what those polyester "costumes" were costing. Even a synthetic matte satin would look better than the fabric in some of those gowns, and it certainly would be cheaper. I've been saying that the sewing industry has priced itself out of business, but given what those rather sad wedding dresses cost, maybe not.

Super trick for second hand cheapo 'shein' ( no more than £5 EVER !) ' tweed' air thoroughly, hang of decent padded jacket hanger and spray with hairspray. This fixed the surface fibres and stops massive pilling.- also gives the fabric more 'body' :)

i worked in a high-end bridal atelier and I can answer some questions. fibre content does not matter, this dress is really meant to be worn once it needs to achieve the intended look and that's it. we still use metal buttons but the reason plastic buttons are becoming common is because wedding dress preservation is becoming more common. You can't have any metal touching the dress during that process. sometimes finishing an edge will add more bulk that isn't needed so they are just unfinished (this was rare where I worked, and only done on specific materials and designs) because it only needs to last a day.

Hey, really love your content! A video where you compare or show some clothing brands that convince garment/production as well as value for money wise would be awesome. (Everyone knows fast fashion is bad and I think a lot of people would pay a bit more for a good piece of clothing but it’s really hard to determine if it really brings a better quality with the price)

As someone who sews and who will spend countless hours sewing tiny stitches by hand where you might not even see them (as well as using a machine), it's shocking to see this. It's just unadulterated profiteering. They probably run those dresses up in sweat shops for next to nothing, with no quality control to brag about. I think the whole wedding dress market is out of control.

Great info thank you! I got a small designer to make the dress I drew out for her. I wouldn't go for silk now as its unethical to me, but it was made of the most beautiful Italian silk satin, the veil also silk tulle, and for so cheap. There was a huge long train in it aswelI, so no skimping on the fabric. I thought this was normal to have natural fibres in wedding dresses until I saw big brand dresses made of tacky plastic, unoriginals, and for 1000's more than what I paid.
