Right click 'HISS' for hiss levels and a noise gate, there's also a limiter right next to the word 'OUT', also (missed by all reviews so far) if you click the little musical note to the right of 'RATE' you can jump between Hz and musical divisions (1/4 1/8 1/16th etc) for the wow and flutter rates.

One of the best demos for Vanguard 2 on KZbin. Sounds like you had a plan instead of just playing random presets with no idea what those presets are. Really made for an enjoyable video, so thank you.

0:54 truly gave it away. The clicky filter on the hardware unit always bugged me a bit. Both sound very usable in my opinion and I owned a JP-8080 for a number of years. Sure, there's still that 5% of character difference. That difference is important to musicians when isolating instrument tracks. However, those differences disappear into obscurity in a full mix. The thing I miss the most about the JP-8080 was all the knobs and sliders AND less load on my CPU (one less synth to load into the DAW). Sure, some of the A and B tests are strikingly different, BUT envelopes do not behave the same from synth to synth so perfect comparisons are almost moot. The last 5% really boils down to some phase randomness that seems to affect how dense or loose the detune knob feels once the sound hits your ears (Hive sounded less dense or chaotic in that capacity).

What about just making the same patches using the existing synths in Reason?? There are so many possibilities already.....We don't need more synths...we have enough :-) Algoritm FM can make the same sounds as PX7(DX7)...
@LincolnHawkMusic21 күн бұрын
Whatever makes yo happy, but I already own PX7 - so I'm not going to re-create the classic DX7 EP in Algoritm because it already exists in its classic and original form on the PX7.

That's cool and to the point. How about some horror movie stuff? John Carpender comes to mind. That delayed bass guitar in The Thing? *chef's kiss
@jimmypeeps84716 ай бұрын
Do people really think John Carpenter is that great at music for his movies? I was watching Planes Trains And Automobiles and noticed it had the same song from They Live in it. The problem is, They Live came out a full year after and John claims credit for a song he just straight up stole from a movie that was just released the year before. That's not talent lol.
@LincolnHawkMusic6 ай бұрын
i like his 80s movie scores, particularly Big Trouble in Little China and Prince of Darkness. His theme from Halloween is a classic. That one piece from The Fog is sooo good.

The main difference seems to be in the way the chorus sounds. I like the sound of the hardware more, but it's probably not too hard to dial it back a bit on the emulation to keep things a bit more restrained.

97%similar. The difference would be indecipherable in a m8x. The DX7 is ever so slightly phatter on a few sounds ..but that can be addressed by running the Halion through plugins.

Love this demo, will have to look into getting 8-Ball :D Out of interest, which Roland TR-707 patch did you use? The only one for Kong I could find was a free one...seems fine but I have no idea how accurate it is, was wondering if there's an official patch out there, or if I should go for something like the Jackbox 7R-707 Reason instrument.

I agree that the patches sound pretty much identical in both versions. I think oversampling is overrated, even though I did oversample the distortion in my own plugin. The Nord Lead sound is not crazy high fidelity anyways, so any potential aliasing might even contribute to the sound like it certainly does in the JP-8000. Overall if I didn't want the additional features like the new resampled waves or patch management, I probably wouldn't upgrade for $75.
