Another great demo. OPS7 is the real deal! Glad I bought this gem.

perfect isn't it! we're so lucky to live in an age where near perfect simulations are available at a fraction of the cost of the real thing. Hopefully Plogue will look to emulate the newer versions of the DX like the TX802 and DX11/TX81Z and even if we're lucky, the FS1R !!

I'm hoping for something like a YM2151 emulation at some point.

The OPS 7 is simply the best.

Seeing two of my beloved hardware keyboards (Dx7 and JX-8P) replaced by software makes me sad. Still keeping them though.

The DX7 has a more compact sound in the bass and is a bit more punchy. Also the highs are less "ouchy" to my ears. The hardware also is clearer and that results in a more dimensional image. BUT the OPS7 is - regarding it's software - close to perfect. A tiny bit of processing with P42 Climax and it's there. It's funny but I prefer OPS7 over the Yamaha reface DX and over Korgs Opsix, which both are so sterile. Great thing about OPS7 is its character and the tiny imperfections. Well done Plogue. Thank you for the video.

Correction : the best emulation to date bought it since it's release and love it to death

The DX7 is still a touch brighter, you can hear this most clearly at 2:25. But I still think this is down to a slight difference in velocity mapping, the DX7 was known for being a little off-standard in that way.

In pursuit of authenticity it is acceptable, but I prefer a not so bright sound because it ends up hammering the head, and the sound becomes annoying. OPS7 sounds perfect. Like a DX7 fixed.

This is indistinguishable. I'm so glad i bought this gem! May i ask what tweaks you did?

My DX7 is an older model, hence my OPS7 settings reflect that. OPS7 settings I used: DAC Bits: 10~12:2 Comp Error: Default Post Filter: Older Model Firmware: mk1 old Note Bugs: On Sim non-init state: On

Some times the hardware is a little bit tighter and defined, but most of the time the software has got it right.

4:21 on real DX attacks lil sharper, or sound brighter overall, different velocity curve?

It only sounds a bit louder to me.

To my ears the software lacks sub frequencies, obvious example is 4:39

@@jackcimino8822 Haha you're right! Sorry about that. But yeah their bass sound different, even with volume match. However I preferred the emulation on this particular part (without even knowing it). Thanks for pointing it out! I think the original has better transients though, you can hear it well in the 0:50 example. The original DX7 has crystal clear transients (especially the attack on the high note). But that could be the settings. Anyways, the emulation sounds spectacular.

ops7 is probably the closest thing to get a replica of dx7 taste, even better than some hardware like montage or kronos. other vst can do operator fm but ops7 seems the best solution if one needs a yamaha dx7 in the box. even reason px7 was good but ops7 surclasses it when it comes to edit, dual layer structure and many other parameters (...and the easy way it handles original sysex), algoritm for reason is also good, but it has quite nothing to do with old pure fm (e.g. simlply adsr on operators rather than complex multistage enveolpes).

My 2nd fav DX7 emulation is PX7. Does a good job and very quick to use inside Reason with the way it works in the browser.
