One of the first games I bought for my 360 and definitely holds up as one of the best horror experiences I’ve played. It doesn’t rely too much on gore or jump scares but just the unsettling atmosphere and environments make you feel unwelcome. On top of having a creepy serial killer detective story with a few paranormal elements sprinkled on, this game hits different from most horror titles out there.

I had no idea there was a PC port 😮 Edit: Apparently it's now abandonware.

Yeah, most of the XP era Warner Bro games are now abandonware. That in mind, the Harry Potter games were ported to every console of the time and then some, including the Game Boy Advance. Since they were developed by different studios, each port set of the first three games are notably different from each other.

If I remember correctly, the inaccuracies mainly come in on the rate the apes learn things and how the animals don't change at the same rate as the hominids. For example, the earliest species of ape can learn how to build basic walls, which isn't something any of the presented species should know. Same with most of the tools. There's also a lack of social interaction, no sexually dimorphic social roles, no inter-troop interaction, the giant centipedes were long extinct before the dinosaurs let along by the time the game takes place, and the max troop sizes are way too small. Bunch of stuff like that. Like I said in the video though, the game is the most accurate game on the market about the subject.

I considered it, but I feel I wouldn't be able to do it justice with how much lore and extended content for it exists. I've only played the main campaign and I'm satisfied with that.

I've owned a cabinet since the early 2000s, and I've *mostly* mastered the game. The arcade machine was purchased from a police auction, I got it for a steal (don't remember the price though). I actually load real quarters into the machine, and play it on the hardest difficulty. I make sure the full gore is turned on, Deaddy to replace the Junior boss (it's cooler to me), and sometimes I'll enable the Haunted House zombie party hat easter egg. Sometimes (but rarely) if I shoot fast enough, at the right time when selecting Rickety Town. I can trigger Umlaut's unused rhyme, I'm not sure if anyone else has done it. Normally on emulator, you would load a save state (although it only plays the rhyme, on the level selection). At first I started out as a cheater, and just played it with Free Play on. Then I decided to get real, and play through it without trying to die. Most of my quarters are used on the Tokkentakker final boss. Sometimes I can beat it with 12 quarters, but most of the time it's like 30 of them. And... that's on the hardest difficulty, most people can't beat him on medium difficulty without using like 60-100 quarters. Lol! As you can tell I am a huuuuge CarnEvil fan, and I've made it my destiny to beat this game like a pro. Most of my playthroughs are on VHS tapes, I've never digitized them though. I would aim a video camera at the arcade cabinet's CRT, and record all my runs. Maybe at some point I will share some footage, and maybe do a brand new playthrough in 4K. My first ever run was done at a mall arcade (that went out of business in 2005), but only 35mm film photos exist of that. Anyway thanks for reading, I'm not trying to show off or get attention. I just want to comment my love for this game, and this is a perfect video for that. :)

I played a couple of these at cedar point because i found the giant arcade place there and in the very back I remember I found the lost world one and a ton of really retro arcade games still working fine. They are so much fun. I'll play these types of games any day and just have a good time.

Dream symbolism is an instrument, it deserves to be used. The key is making it as surreal and disjointed as one.

Watched my uncles play this game at an Arcade near the beach, and in my dumb kid mind it freaked me out knowing there was even the possibility of facing things in the game even if they were just regular animals. Still, the kid in my head always gives the ocean the double finger salute whenever I get in the water. Honestly always really liked the style of the game along with the cabinet itself.

I admit, the first time I completed the game it didn't resonate with me well. Maybe because I was a bitter young adult. I may have to give it a second playthrough just to experience it again because watching this makes me feel like I played it with my eyes closed. Wonderful review as always Bexx.

I worked at a Gamestop when this game was released, and back then we could rent games for a few days. I remember renting this since I had just finished Umbrella Chronicles and HOTD 2&3 Returns, and I wanted another rail shooter to play. I think I got 15 minutes into it and brought it back. I'm glad people forgot about this game because it's actual garbage and should only be brought up for archival purposes.

God I love this game. As a kid, the local skating rink had this and a few others in a row. I remember seeing the intro screen over and over again and to be honest, I suspect that's where my love of horror originated. I never did play it, but I remember fondly that a group of us young boys were watching a barely teenage kid get to the final boss and everyone pooling their money into it so we could see the ending. Years later at a beachside carnival, the raggedy trailer where the arcade was also had this game and it felt surreal. A rickety carnival that barely functioned having this game was like a sign to complete it. Ironically enough, both of those times had Deaddy instead of Junior. An arcade in Tennessee has the game the last time I checked so I'd make a trip there at least once a month to play this, House of the Dead and Pole Position. The Big Bunyan ride song lives rent free in my head though. I wish a company would buy the rights to it to use the song as hold music.

I remember the Lost World game a lot as a kid. My uncles worked construction a lot and being in the south that meant a lot of time at the beaches. Beaches meant arcade heaven back in the 90s. They'd play The Lost World in the sit down cabinet that was shaped to look like the jeep and admittedly they spent way too much money trying to beat it. I was always fascinated by it as a kid because of the atmosphere and the tone of the game. Oddly enough, I've never seen the movies (I was scarred by the original as a young boy, thanks mom!) But the games live rent free in my head.
