Loooooove Octavia E Butler. I read 4 from her last year, including Parable of the Sower. Also loved Binti! I read that trilogy a couple of years ago. The first one is still my fave. Great recs.

Octavia Butler a treasure! LOVE Binti too! Short and sweet

the main theme of the book was Rooney presenting us with the characters through the eyes of the other characters, and then undermining that by revealing that the 'other characters' are not actually reliable narrators due to their own issues. I thought she did this really well.

I agree the book is overpriced. That is on the publisher not the author. I paid £10 for the hardback. I wouldn’t call Ivan young and dumb. He beat 10 chess club players in a simultaneous display. He’s a freelance data analyst and over-achiever. He calculates the minimum he needs to earn to cover his living expenses so he can devote the rest of his time to chess and his girlfriend. Maybe you’ve never met anyone like that. I found it to be a very accurate portrayal of how some people think. I loved this book. I would even say it’s the best novel I’ve read that was published in the last 20 years and I’ve read some good ones. ❤😮

I will never understand bully romances. No one wants to be in a relationship with someone who hurts you physically , mentally, and or emtionally. I agree with you on the stickers. Either make it peelable or place it on the back of the book jacket atleast.

HILARIOUS!!! An underrepresented reader in all these types of videos are comic book readers! People are fine they're bound up and labeled as graphic novels but they look down on comic books for some reason. For example, people like to say "I don't read comic books. Those are for children. I read graphic novels like Saga" even though Saga is a comic book. It comes out monthly as single issues. Or they'll say they don't read American comics because they're "too political" then turn around and talk about reading the manga Akira. Which is incredibly in-your-face political, but they can't comprehend that so they ignore it lol.

I would like to add one more. Please get rid of the “F” work and curse words on every page or every other page. Seriously, this sickens me. I am a senior citizen here and have heard it all in my life. I read for enjoyment. I don’t need the potty mouth. Do women and men actually think this is endearing me to them. There are book tubers out that that do the “F” word in their videos. Not cool people.

omg i needed this video 😭 i actually just got frustrated after cracking open a 'cute' romance book and i was just upset because it immediately felt so shallow. i love how all your recommendations in this list are powerful stories with focus on actually illustrating the humanity and flaws of the characters as they go through a romance rather than being primarily a 'watch hottie 1 and hottie 2 get together'. ESPECIALLY when you recommended open water and evelyn hugo. hearing your excerpt from your annotations was literally so beautiful and everything i look for in books 💝

Apparently, her characters are like this because Irish people are super old-timey and repressed? So what is normal in the West is not that normal for them, hence the unbearable awkwardness of all her characters and the annoying and strange "moral" tangents it takes.

I started reading and listening to the audiobook simultaneously at like 2.5x to 3x speed to keep up with my own reading speed and it's marvelous. I can remember so much more of the book and characters and can quote lines from memory. I'm obsessed with this method now.

Friendly fyi, the title refers to the intermezzo in chess, not music. "An intermezzo, also known as a zwischenzug, is a chess tactic where a player makes an unexpected move in the middle of a series of forced moves. The move is designed to frustrate the opponent's defense and can change the outcome of the game."

@banjobibliotecaАй бұрын
I write the thought in my notes app and put the page number I’m referencing. You can also use a reading journal, they’re great! Or write on the annotation stickers, remove the tabs when you’re done and save them in a journal like a scrapbook (I do this and i love it!)

i just discovered that you can annotate in libby and after you return the book, you can still see your highlights and notes? 🤯

Ok I must admit…. You just leveled up my annotation game…. Normally I only annotate what I really enjoy….the idea of arguing with the author when I don’t like something is phenomenal …as a engineer nothing I have to read for work is enjoyable….. I’m about to be going off in the margins 😆😆😆 Also… we appreciate you shaking your head showing us how well the ear buds stay in 😁😂😂
