Since a lot of the fantasy that gets published now is romantasy, I particularly hate when the so-called romance is actually a toxic relationship.

I recently bought a copy of the Six of Crows duology. Why is the unremoveable “Netflix adaptation” sticker still on it? Netflix cancelled it when they cancelled shadow and bone. The adaptation isn’t being made get rid of the sticker!

DO NOT do the 24 hour challenge. I did it a year ago and got nothing out of it. I couldn’t Remember anything I read, my sleep cycle was ruined and I felt sick afterwards
@banjobiblioteca5 күн бұрын
Ohh wow, I hope you recovered fully!
@zacharykhan85564 күн бұрын
I tried doing it a year ago, I ended up reading for only 9 or 10 hours. 100% recommend doing that occasionally if you have the time, it's very peaceful and you still have time to do other things with your day if you need to.
@aamnahere62502 күн бұрын
Losing your sleep consistently is quite bad but the assumption in the video being given that a few times doing so will cause you lifelong irreparable damage is inaccurate. Recent studies show that staying awake for 24 hours continuously does significantly impact our brain on several levels and tends to be quite harmful but that damage is absolutely reversible if you sleep properly next day.

Omg yeees about the printed on stickers! I don't care if it's a show/movie now, I don't care if Jenna or Reese or whoever else picked it for their book club, I don't care if it was nominated for a bunch of awards! I miss the days where these things were removeable stickers, whhhy did publishers switch to printing it directly on the cover/dust jacket?!

I painstakingly removed a "signed" sticker from my book's dust jacket that had gold foil details. I was so scared the foil would get damaged. Thankfully, the bookstore put the "signed" sticker on the plastic wrap for the sequel. Came off with the wrapper😤

Let’s leave the 24 hour timer method in 2024 too. If you’re using a timer to start and stop when you’re reading, it’s just your regular reading, nothing ground breaking about it.
@generalguy3911Күн бұрын
Obviously 😐 it's just to see how much you read in 24 hours, it's not supposed to something special, just something cool/neat. And it let's others do the challenge without staying awake all night

@aamnahere62502 күн бұрын
I disagree with the point of 'cruelty for the sake of character development' argument because it actively reduces the nuance of characters. If that's how you limit and define characters then villains doing evil stuff to equally defenceless people can also be reduced to as a stunt for 'character development' when it's much deeper than that. Exploration of characters requires different shades of good and evil and this trend of rejecting authors for including stuff they feel sets the tone for their plots, storylines and characters because it's deeply upsetting to us is something I wholeheartedly disagree with. It's perfectly valid to not want to read books that feature violence against defenceless people and animals but I see a lot of people nowadays making presumptions on behalf of authors that they're just including violence as 'trauma porn' when no one calls romance authors with heroes (not even villains) being celebrated while being terrible to the female protagonists 90% of the book as 'abuse porn.'
@banjobiblioteca2 күн бұрын
I never mentioned that I don’t like it because it’s upsetting. Like I said, the reason I don’t like them is because I have never actually seen the animal cruelty contribute to the character development (except maybe 1984). I would feel the same way and I have mentioned feeling the same way about writers who incorporate abuse against humans without any concrete purpose. If you have book recommendations where the animal actually was a symbol or a metaphor or actually furthered the understanding of the character’s arc, please leave them in the comments and I’ll add them to my TBR. Always looking to learn :)

if an author is going to write a disabled character, I would rather them actually know someone with that disability instead of just doing research and then potentially getting something wrong because they didn’t have someone with a disability read the book. better yet the author themselves is disabled and so we know it would be authentic and accurate.
