Fast but not rush. An intense and tragic interpretation. People used to play it with "deep sorrow" but an dramatic appoarch like Ballade No.1 is also interesting.

Favoloso. Un onore aver potuto discutere con lui circa le ultime sonate di Beethoven. Uomo di grande spirito, oltretutto.

Better than Barenboim. But i interpret it still better. It seems childish to say so, but the opening bars should be emotional in the left hand. Famous pianist pros seem to be ashamed of playing with too much emotion and instead rush it to show that it's too babyish for them! (Like it's simply their duty to play "another Beethoven Sonata".)

Put the whole three movement sonata in one file. Don’t be an asshole and make me go through a search to find each movement.

It is my dream that one day when I'm old and withered, I can sit in front of the fire and my daughter can play me classical music on the piano
I've listened to this one, Arrau's and Ashkenazy's. Six of one, half dozen of another, so to speak. They all sound great, with some subtle differences here and there. At least the first movement. Maybe it's my ears.

My favorite Beethoven Sonata. Brendel takes a elegantly sedate tempo at the beginning.

The last movement is well haunting. Beethoven loved his Neapolitan Sixths - Lol.

I prefer this interpretation to Barenboim except I find it strange that he plays the melody lines legato when in my edition it has clearly marked super staccato markings. I like how he doesnt put the repeat in.

This is indeed the most beautiful Interpretation of this early Beethoven Sonata. You only can play this so beautiful if you know the whole cosmos of the other Beethoven sonatas. And Brendel does. 🌟

Extremely funny! Humor in music, really great, I don't know who is the funniest Beethoven or Brendel here, but then after everything rounding off sweetly, seriously, saying I meant no harm, I was just playing

Love how Brendel plays the Byzantine "Our Father" hymn in the Allegretto - he allows Beethoven's notes to breathe wonderfully. Superb.

There are many greats. Gulda (for me) was always special. The most naturally musical. Technically gifted but also a musical poet.
