nobody does Beethoven better. Brendel's sensitive and precise pianism, without being prissy, and highly intelligent musicianship do this music superb justice.

I love that he takes a slightly slower tempo. It really sets the peaceful, natural mood of the piece.

Exactly. I like Pollini’s Beethoven but here, Brendel is the best I think. Peace and clarity.

It's really really good. What do you think about Ethella Chuprik's version, though?

Goddamn, the tempo is a solid frame of gold holding up this masterful interpretation. Extremely beautiful half-step section.

What a perfect school - to play beautifully without even one little movement...

perhaps just the best interpreter of Beethoven

Because of its simplicity and open sonority in the lower register, perhaps the most difficult first movement of the Sonatas to control, tonally. But for Brendel..

You should listen to Sokolov's version! It's really beautiful as well. Very precise and subtle.

Barenboim's version seems slower and even more peaceful. But this one is nice too.

Sick of loading up sonatas then finding it to be just one movement.
