@@joshuacarro Just finished day two of this session and already feeling some improvement. A brief backstory: I am an old man who studied for five years with Shankar Ghosh, a semester with Gnan Prakash Ghosh, and informally with Zakir Hussain, back in the late 60s and early 70s at the Ali Akbar College of Music. Although I did not pursue a professional tabla career (I am also a traditional/folk musician still performing), I continued practice over the years until I developed a weak middle finger in my right hand, making playing phrases like dha ti ge ne or three finger te re ki te very difficult. Discovering you has given me a structured, disciplined practice with which I am attempting to reinvigorate, not only my middle finger, but my playing in general. So, thanks again, and onward!

@@willwright8554 Awesome! Glad to help, what would you want a practice video of next?
@willwright85543 күн бұрын
@@joshuacarroAt the moment, I'm looking forward to spending a good amount of time with each of your current videos, so there's plenty to keep me busy for now. But there are two things that I can think of that I would also like to work on. One would be a nice Dehli Gharana composition, as my weak middle finger somehow works well when not in conjunction with the ring finger, so, for example, the kaida Dha te te Dha te te Dha Dha te te Dha ge tu na ke na comes easily to me. So maybe you have another interesting one in your repertoire? And the second would be in the art of reciting bols. It's inevitable at my age that my physical skills will begin to diminish, but I can still speak, and love to keep tal and recite compositions. But I'm curious about how to improve this skill, especially when it comes to clarity at a fast tempo. Do you have any exercises, tricks, or short cuts for speaking at double speed? Thanks again for your videos and I look forward to whatever you come up with next.

I really appreciate your "Practice With Me" series, and hope you keep the sessions coming! It's so easy to sit down at the tablas to "practice" for an hour or two, playing something for a few minutes, then switching on to something else, etc., etc., with very little improvement to show for it. So for you offer a focused, organized, and progressive practice is a real gift. Thank you! (I did make it through this video - one of my favorite kaidas - start to finish and was hoping at the end for an even faster segment!)
