Just wondering, have you looked at using a GFX body with an adaptor to full frame lenses? That would give you access to a wider variety of lenses.

I know this video is a few months old, but curious to hear your thoughts on Fuji's new XF500mm f/5.6. Seems like a decent aperture for equivalent 700+mm focal length.

Yes, if one could afford the Z8, then get it and rest easy. It is truly a jack of all trades, something that will reward the owner. Also, what lens you use for your shoots is also vital. Great video bro

I don't know it you saw, but Fujifilm just announced a version of the 500mm f/5.6 lens for their X-mount. Used with the X-T5, that will essentially give you 750mm with 40 megapixels (plenty of room to crop from there, if needed), at probably the lightest form factor for anything in the 750-800mm focal range (for prime lenses) currently available in any camera system. Given your experience with the Fujifilm system, I'd be curious to hear your opinion of whether that might work as a good walkaround kit for people who do a lot of songbird photography, but also a lot of hiking.

I think if one starts off with the 280-600, they should keep it & then add the 800pf. My only long lens is the 200-500 (still using a D810) & although I have to do some heavy cropping for most photos, there are times when I need to zoom out. Of course a lot of the times I go out & if something is not around which is mostly coastal migratory, I’ll shoot anything. On a long distance trips like you mention, would be better to have both, heck, even local.Wouldn’t make sense to go without a backup.

Great call, didn’t pick that up. Yeah Canon have some unique lens offerings but a shame they didn’t go a 800mm 6.3. They had/have a nice 5.6 but a bit of a behemoth. Thanks for your comment :)
@davepastern2 ай бұрын
@@bernieshore Being an Australian gives me an advantage when it comes to our birds. I would suck with American/Canadian birds! Canon has the RF 800mm f5.6 but it is a rip off. It is basically the RF 600mm f4 with a permanently attached RF 1.4x TC. I can get the 600 and 1.4x TC for 21k. The RF 800 costs 32k in Australia. You'd have to be stupid to buy the RF 800. Nikon easily has the best range of wildlife lenses for their mirrorless cameras.

Long time ago I had a pre-war 800mm f5, manual focus, manual aperture. It covered 6x7 and was very sharp, but didn’t work well for surfers. Your lens probably would have been better.
@bernieshore2 ай бұрын
Oh wow, that would have been a very unique piece of glass. To cover 6x7 it must have been a beast! The 800mm 6.3 would be a great lens for the surf. Thanks for your comment

I am a huge fan of the GS645, but it comes with a few distractions, only some of which are mentioned here. For me the prime advantages of the GS645 are its travel features, small size when collapsed and light weight - a pocket MF camera. The major "con" is the bellows. Fuji made these cameras with a poor choice of plastic bellows material. Whether used or stored in the sock drawer, the plastic hardened over a few years, then started breaking in use. This lead to light leaks. Any GS645 which has been in use will have the bellows replaced by now, but if it looks minty because it's been stored for 40 years, then the bellows will be gone with a month of use. Quality bellows (better than new) are available. The repair is tedious if not complex, but DIY is not recommended, as the rangefinder must be recalibrated to complete the process. If the price of a good GS645 plus any repairs required is too steep, consider a good condition Konica Pearl III. The lens is not quite as good as the Fuji, but then very few are. The body is smaller and, being all metal, is probably more durable. The Konica has no internal meter like the Fuji, so a separate handheld meter, or tiny clip-on, would help. The Konica goes for half the price of the Fuji.

Congratulations! I am also a Fujifilm shooter with XH2 and XH2S with 150-600. Love the glass options of Nikon Z system. Can you maybe discuss your results comparison between the Nikon vs Fuji. I know the specs, but what’s your real take? I’m not a pro, just a retiree that now has the time to shoot more. Thanks.
