Looks good, will keep an eye out at the LBS to try one. Would really prefer something like the Rocky Mountain ebike setup for this, lots of quiet natural feeling torque. The price tag does mean that it will have to feel very very good to buy though.

@@MyLakernation also a total ball ache to fix when it breaks even in a warm garage with tools. I’ve gone from internal to external on a Ritchey frame and never looked back. Classic is best.

Pinion gearbox is nice, but chain instead of belt??? Kinda makes "low maintenance all terrain tourer" moot.

This drop out makes getting the back tire on correctly a nightmare. I get the idea, but it would be so much easier with a standard dropout. Simple rules the day.

Great bike Surly!!!!!! This is my go to bike (and I have many bikes) it is a great value, a blast to ride, and the ride quality from the steel frame is superb!! I’ve been riding the flat bar version for about a year and I am a seasoned bicyclist, been a serious mtb rider since 1987, I’ve always wanted a Surly and this bike does not disappoint. Sure the components are lower end, but expected at this price point. The frame and geometry is awesome. I ride it mostly on sidewalks and some dirt roads and it is a great bridge between a mtb and road bike. Durable enough for unban sidewalk and curbs and dirt/gravel roads.

Very interesting !!! Dang it, Got an aerobike, cause more flat and solo in my habits, but i do like to climb out of the saddle. I did however change my stance when I saw a tutorial from EF coach on a KZbinr channel ( Charles Ouimet ), basically saying the low sprinting stance was effective and trainable to go uphill out of the saddle, lower on the front and back, less bike and hips side movements, pushing down as well as back, more watts. To wich I added breathing techniques, wider cadence spectrum, ankle mobility, diminutive lateral balance patterns, and the surfing the hill thinking of The surly bikes founder (If I’m not mistaking the Bike brand) .
