I have to do this same thing to my son's floor joist. Question....is it necessary to use plates on both sides of the joist?
@JohnHarmon

probably not, but in this case I felt I could clamp the bolts harder without compromising the boards

I'm about to install this on my XJ today. Just got the Hooke bumper on. I like to watch a few videos to get some lessons learned and save myself some pain. Also, I don't know if it still is on sale but I got this winch $80 discounted which made it cheaper than the 9.5k winch I was gonna purchase. Might as well go bigger. Plus, I could always get the 9.5k winch if it goes on sale and put this on my '99 F350.

Your brass bushings are too tight you'll have to machine them down a little bit or take flat file on the outside of the brass bushing and a round file on the inside sometimes the shaft is not smooth I ran into the same problem

The center springs get hot and week so what i did is streched it out then i made another ring and put it with the other brass ring it puts more preasure on the spring but it will lower top end a little but iam still in trial area with this but i hope it works better but i think the springs get warm and lose preasure to release the belt

So this is essentially a flitch plate but instead of the timber on either side of the metal flitch plate, the flitch plates are on either side of the timber?

I know this is better late than never; but the aftermarket 40 series I bought has steel slide bushings on either side of that big return spring. Comet uses self oiling bronze bushings there. They are number 203031a. You need 2. These should fit your driver clutch and solve your issue. It did mine anyways with the exact same symptoms.Cheers.

Why is the flat table on top so far up from the stove? You'll loss heat for cooking
@JohnHarmon
@JohnHarmon 8 ай бұрын
Because there wasn't much room in the stove already, and its primary purpose is to heat the tent, not to cook on.

Do you feel like 16x20 is the right size for your family? Would 16x24 be overkill for a family of 7?
@JohnHarmon
@JohnHarmon 10 ай бұрын
I feel like it is a good size for my family. I don't think I would go any bigger. It is harder to heat. If I were to do it again I would just add a lot more windows for air ventilation options (particularly in the summer months). I personally think it is a good size for 7 people.

This design has been tried and proved not only by me but by thousands that have purchased the model this is based off of. If I shut the door and vents the fire goes out and I don't get any smoke leakage. The smoke just goes up the flue.

Just by experience, the wider your wheel base is , the harder it is to turn under full trailer weight. Also risk breaking your wheels.
