Whoever did the mixing and sound production for this performance should win a “Grammy” for best recorded live performance EVER.

Brian does amazing things I don't see anyone else doing on bass, both electric, fretted and fretless, and upright. Sometimes his innovative thinking reminds me of Jimi Hendrix and Eddie Van Halen, in how his style is such a dramatic step forward in multiple ways; challenging, creative, and fun to watch and listen to; makes him one of my favorite live bassists, even though I have to overlook the smoothness of the genre, for his skills and ideas, I can tolerate the sweetness for a bit.

You guys are great, but i have a question about bass players . Why are modern bass players obsessed with slapping and popping ? And some of you want to play it like a guitar and have another bass player playing the bottom end like you are supposed to . Play a guitar if you want to play a bass like a guitar . What happened to the good ole days where the bass player played the low funky beat with the drummer ? Everyone has thecslap the crap out of the bass . Lets get back to basics

Hey Gary, thanks for sharing your views! For some of us, our playing style develops on its own in a way. We end up playing the way we play, the way we hear. It just kind of happens, especially when you don't try and model yourself after someone else and you want to have your voice on the instrument. I have recorded many tracks on my records and on sessions that are not slapped, as that was what I felt was right for the music at that time. The thing about slap bass is that it is a technique and sound that is very specific to the electric bass, so over the years it has become a major part of the sound and vibe of the electric bass, especially in funk oriented music. As a session bass player and a live bass player, it is always important to play what is right for the music. If slap bass is right for the song because of its vibe, sound, feel, and energy, then it's right for the song. That doesn't mean that is how you play every song all the time, you just do what feels right in that moment. The cool thing is that there are a lot of great bass players out there and a lot of great music to connect with that makes you feel what you want to feel. There are only 12 notes. It's so cool that they can be played in so many ways on the bass which has so many voices these days with different strings, tuning, amount of strings, and role in the music. The bass is extremely versatile these days, very cool........

@BrianBrombergBass Thanks for your explaination . Not singling you out , I just happened to be watching your video and thought I'd ask . Im a drummer , so i appreciate a good funky bottom beat . Your band is extremely talented as is you as well . Love this song and its groove . Is this an origamal piece ? And thanks for not being offended . Ive had that question on my mind for quite some time . Just thought Id put it out there to satisfy my curiousity . Thanks for answering

What a virtuoso performance! He is just so creative, and articulate with his phrasing and timing. Is he better than Christian McBride, or Esperanza Spalding? Love to see them all on the same stage.

Brian Bromberg is one of the few bass virtuosos who is absolutely world class on both :the double bass and the electric bass. Unfortunately I Never had the opportunity to see ihm live, at least in Hamburg or northern Germany I never saw him perform here…
