About the cave lions. Maybe, just maybe, humans saw only females as like African lioness are the ones hunting. So, humans only saw lionesses, as humans, were hunting the same kind of games. I don’t think humans would have stayed around too long. Carry the pray or process it as fast as possible. Cave paintings have no squirrels for example or other small critters they surely also got for snack. So, things around them they thought to be formidable that they hunted or saw hunting. Squirrels are not known for hunting that much. Sure, sure mountain lions still exist and have no mane but they are not lions. Drunk thought and good night.

It should be said that herbivorous animals can't digest meat well, because their guts are designed to break down and absorb the nutrients from plant matter, which they do much better than carnivores or omnivores. That being said, while most of the nutrients in meat will get pissed out as a waist product, some of it will stay in the animal which can be a big help in the end. As you said, carnivorous animals eat plants for a similar reason. It's a similar reason as to why some animals may ingest rocks despite it largely being useless to the body, like you mentioned.

Humanity is the worst thing to happen to this planet. Listen to the agent in the Matrix describing us and tell me he isn't being truthful about our predatory nature. We would be the death of this universe if not contained to our atmosphere.

When i was young i'd go into this summer camp in western francethat was part of some sort of zoo where animals were semi free and there was Suamang there, i miss getting woken up by their singing, also there was a pretty old siamang female that decided to live alone after losing her mate...

Dinosaurs are truly incredible creatures. They were created along with everything else about 6,000 years ago. I'm tired of people throwing these million year statements out like they really know that's true. What *is* true is that God created them all and He made incredible diversity among them. As we know, most died during the flood 4,500 years ago, but the ones that were saved never got as big as these old ones did. That's why movies like Jurassic Park are a joke. To have T-Rex growing to 80 feet tall in a few weeks is preposterous. I know it's just a movie, but it's very inaccurate. Those lizards had to live nearly a thousand years to get that big.

This must be an interesting point of study for exobiology. Considering how different Earth was back then, it was basically an alien planet. I think this sheds some light on what we might expect to find in other worlds when looking for life in them!

-- Supplemental: Regarding the rib cages of archaic/extinct hominins, i think its noteworthy that all hominins retained the basal ape like bell shaped, or cone shaped rib cage, including H neandertalensis. On closer inspection of fossil hominin rib cage morphology it is evident that H sapiens is the outlier species specimen and only bi pedal hominid or hominin that has a cylindrical or barrel shaped rib cage, unlike all others that had basal ape like cone or bell shaped rib cages. Keep up the good work and post more paleoanthropology stuff! 🤙
