Regarding your anecdote of the frequent snake eyes, I can relate to that. I have mostly played D&D, having no chorus to try other things. A single die is very swingy having a flat curve, but then, how frequent is each of those equaly likely results to come up, turns out to be unexpected, and during the game very exciting or frustrating. I once DM'ed for my kids, and on the first round of combat, them having initiative went first, and their two first rolls came out natural 20s. On another ocasion, when I was the player, I rolled three consecutive 4s, so I asked my DM jokingly, if that didn't count as some sort of critical success, since it was a lot more unlikely than a natural 20. Then without being so unlikely, there are these game sessions, where there really seems to be some sort of supernatural force working against the players, because all keep rolling low, but then there is the opposite too. So it looks like probability is confirmed in real life, over long experiments, at least with single die systems. With 5e, even the advantage/disadvantage mechanic confirms this observation. I have rolled the same number on both dice, to no effect frequently. Maybe kind of the same with dice pool systems, where the bigger the pool, the less probable extreme results come up. But then, I remember playing Vampire the Masquerade, rollind a pool of 6d10, and getting 4 ones...

Can i make this water without the clay edge? For a catan board :) one hexagon needs to be all water without the lake edge
@HobbySauce3 жыл бұрын
The clay edge keeps it from going over. If you have a hex piece I would probably *just* apply the gloss modge podge after painting. Itll give the glossy appearance with little depth. If you still want the depth you’ll need to put up removable barriers around it before you pour, but itll sit higher than your other hexes.

It's the only way to keep it supported. $30/year is not a big deal at all. I spend WAY more than that on models, etc. If you use it even halfway regularly you'll be down to only a few bucks or even less than a buck a game.

Tom Remillard I have a live battle report you can view to see the specific method, but you can see the button at least in this video. You’ll see on the bottom of the screen while in a game there’s an icon that resembles a die. Click on that, and select how many you want to roll. After you roll, your results will appear in the chat box to the left.

Glad your back! You got hella lucky turn 1. Also, G.o.C would run the list better as he designed it has been playing like this for years. The RC kind of let this happen. They over-nerf Elf shooting and let this trash get through after having a War Machine issue in 1st edition. Thus Nightstalkers spam.
@elvendarkness14 жыл бұрын
Well done Matt! One note that people seem to forget are that some war engines/war machines only serve one purpose, as they cannot claim objectives nor can they fight in melee or move and shoot. Also, as you mentioned, they might have become more reliable with the extra attack, yes, people tend to forget that now you have to roll for some a 5/6 to hit, so to equal what it used to be you'd have to hit with both shots. All said, great job!
@NewbieDice4 жыл бұрын
Great vid. Also to note that even if you're losing the attrition game. You still have a good chance of winning the scenario (dominate) as he has very little unit strength left, in his deployment zone too.
@HobbySauce4 жыл бұрын
Newbie Dice that’s something I love about KoW. You’re never out of the game completely if you can still play the objective. One of my favorite wins was a situation where I was either going to win on turn 6 or get tabled on the top of 7.
@l200jjk4 жыл бұрын
You summarized it perfectly at 2:00. War machines are in a great place right now, they are clearly too powerful especially after the blanket shooting nerf. Are they unbeatable though? No! of course not, no list is unbeatable. So I'm not entirely sure what your bat rep was trying to prove. The problem is that WM spam is a very very boring meta! and not a great place for the game to be in moving forward. Her is a quote from the TO of that tournament - "War engines are indeed a problem. I argued that we should wait to see how those armies performed at Siege of Augusta. What I observed was players "netdecking" lists. Yes, different players; yes, different armies; yes, same exact play style and effects. It left players feeling impotent and resulted in 1 game not even being played and 1 game stopping in turn 1 because the powerful list could not be compensated for." That is a sad outcome for one of the first major tournaments of V3.
@HobbySauce4 жыл бұрын
JayKay unfortunately the people that came to that tournament knew ahead of time it would be very war machine heavy and brought very few counters. A balanced list can beat war machine spam, If argue 70/30 split, assuming equal skill. It’s to early to call it broke. Masters will be a better indicator as its composed of players from all regional metas and also the best of those regions. If war machine spam overtakes Masters, too, then we’ll talk ;)
@antoontelgenhof34264 жыл бұрын
Nice vid man. But for a tournament wouldn't the list be restricted to 3 rabble regiments? That would at least ask some creativity to get all the drops and shots.
@HobbySauce4 жыл бұрын

To me this has always been an issue of people who want to play a certain way without making lists that can work in every scenario.
@HobbySauce4 жыл бұрын
Steve Strangelove for sure. That’s the major downside of a skewed list like this. It may be GREAT against certain builds, but it’s going to suffer against others. If you’re really good at predicting the meta, and this is a good counter against what you expect - go for it. If you aren’t...might want a more tool-box style list.

@HobbySauce4 жыл бұрын
Holy Diver casual games happen all the time, but we don’t report on them, that’s for sure. I, personally, am a big tournament player, but that’s just because I really enjoy the atmosphere and the competition. I think there’s a lot that talk (briefly and in passing) about casual games. I hope people are out there just playing with starter sets and running all those terrible but flavorful units we all love.

I can understand the frustration and cries of broken if you face something without the tools to deal with it, especially in Kings of War. We're used to not having that. It seems that war engines took one tournament by surprise. One just has to ask yourself how you're dealing with war engine spam when making a list; just like you need an answer to flyers, alpha strike, all the scenarios, etc.
@HobbySauce4 жыл бұрын
