Of course you can find them cheap. The caveat is you have to put millions into it to make it livable! Then you need the yearly income to sustain it.

ERrrhhhhhhh... well two things, first of that you need to see if a listed building or not, if so, NOOOO!!!! Secondly, the majority of people buying cheap chateaux are doing it for an urge to recreate the former beauty, not just making a house out of it, as there are plenty of non-chateau properties to do that!

Great fun having a look at the chateaux . This maison de maître was enough work. An easy rule is what you buy will take twice as much to restore at least. Buy for love not profit🙏🏻🙏🏻

The last one was the best one IF you are ok with renovation and living in a VERY COLD area of the country. I would like it because of the history and I have extended family that owned it. That said I would LOVE someplace in the South near the Perpigan area. For me a living in a cold area that rains all the time would be a non-negotiable after living in Ca. just no. lol

I haven't ignored anything, it is just that the Provence-Alpes-Cotes d'Azur region is the second most expensive region after Paris and there are pretty well no chateaux under 1 Million €uros. So I decided not to include it in this series, as this is aimed at the cheap end of the market. I do however have other series planned with bigger budgets and the PACA region will be included.

Thats seems to be an ongoing debate, but I was taught that it is nothing to do with size, architecture, etc. It is to do with whether or not the owner had high or low justice, as in whether they judged in the name of the king or not... ie public executions.

In my opinion anyone thinking of buying in France who for whatever reason can't make it to view-there are plenty of people who can't-it would be wise to hire someone like Dan to view the properties on your behalf to save yourself alot of money in the long run.

I like all three and for the price the third is a great value but I really dislike how it is two very different styles.If it was all one whole look, then great--either looks good together it is jarring.

I did do one about the nouvelle Aquitaine, which is where Bordeaux is. But this is one of the more expensive areas of the region so didn’t actually figure in the cheap end. I also would be reluctant to buy property near a river, as a lot of flooding in the news,. With climate change and hot summers, likelihood of atmospheric rivers increases. For every degree hotter, air holds 7% more water, I think.
