This was fabulous. Not sure if you had mentioned it elsewhere, but the time it takes to find these (precisely) on a map can range from a few minutes to days. Frustrating, but it usually works out. My wife and I have spent quite a bit of time looking at a few of these going back over the last 8-9 months, with similar comments: "not sure if this is a chateau or not," "650,000 for that? I don't think so." "is it near a village or too close tt he neighbors?" One thing we always look for is electricity--are there outlets? lamps on table tops? light fixtures? Disturbingly, sometimes there are not. Okay, time to keep shopping!

It does take some time sometimes, especially when some agents play at cat and mouse!

Thank you Dan for this beautiful presentation. Always interesting to view these objects with the eye of an expert. What strikes me is the fact that even with a budget of €750,000, there are still quite a few stings under the grass. But that may not improve with increasing the budget unless you go into the millions and even then i think. I really enjoyed your animated presentation and British humor. I love it very much! It may be a good idea to do a similar exercise for characterful buildings, homes such as watermills, farms or characteristic charming homes in a rural environment.... just an idea. Thanks a lot Dan!

Thx for the video. Very interesting stuff but I reckon id be real keen on those other video ideas you mentioned, especially the alternatives to chateaux.

This is a great overview of the whole country and what is typical, in my own search I see similar results, that until you get over 800k, the work is still needed and even needed on 2mil+ of course. If you have the time and want a new video theme, do a video on wine estates under 1mil, surprisingly there are half a dozen just in the Dordogne. Some are chateaux included, other just manor house or a chartruese. So many names for that which we would like to just call a home. Also, there seem to be many watermills, lockkeeper cottages, that would be a fun theme too.

Thanks. This is useful. Good commentary. I'm generally thinking of something in the south of France, maybe southeast but not in a "celebrity zone" with lots of status seekers, with lot of sun and good air. Also something convenient to all services - preferably within walking distance - including a train station, even better if it serves TGV or at least fast trains. It should be in excellent condition. This would serve as a 2nd house. Budget isn't a problem, but the really huge places would probably require far more maintenance and staff than I want to deal with, so I'm thinking 3-5 bedrooms, maybe 3-4 baths, just a moderate amount of land that is easy to maintain. Is there a specific video or set of videos that are recommended? Is the first chateau within a few meters of the main road? Road noise would be a problem. Otherwise, the village location could be convenient.

For the chateau, yes it is in the town centre and on a main road. Feel free to email me your criteria to dan@agencenewton.com and I will see what I can find.

@@FrenchEstateAgent Thanks. Honestly, we are still trying to determine if this is something we want to do. We've traveled to France many times, most recently spending a month in Paris, but not with this in mind. My wife and I will likely spend more extended periods in France now that I am retiring, and then know if we want to move forward. I would love to see similar videos at somewhat higher prices, maybe 1.25M euro, 2M euro, 3M euro.
