Im only adding to the comments which I wish I hadnt given my time to do but the L is not the worst motor if you understand what it was actually meant for, IF you understand that you understand that honda put it in a si so it could keep producing them and meet EPA standards for the next 8 years....its not meant to handle extra power it just isnt...and on top of that I feel like you havent seen some off the wall V6 motors or even the D17...your title is simply clickbait lol

honda engineers built low rpm engine, which conflicts with norm. this could be influenced by gas prices and gov raising the standard mpg for all makes. all oil pumps fail if the tolerances aren't right.. i feel engineers at honda did well with these just shows how versatile honda is. i can see this becoming a common swap in the near future

This is the basic engine (without the Turbo) used in the Philippines in the City, and the BR/V, and it works great and has good gas mileage. In the philippines its a natural aspirated engine. They now are using this engine with turbo in the CR/V, but probably wont have any problems because the climate is always hot. Cold climate is the downfall of this engine in Turbo mode.

If you want crazy power, get a K series engine. There is a REASON why the civic type R is a K series variant still (k20C1, 320 HP stock). The K series continues to be an incredible, reliable, over-built engine, especially for the commuters making 150-180 HP stock. In my opinion the L15 is a great engine... but not mod-able. Like another commenter said, engineers made a 200HP car that gets civic MPG, and has a lot of torque. That engine is maxed out already harder than a D15 mini-me turbo swap... B series is old technology, just easier to work on. I went with a B because I got a good deal on a project car and regretfully sunk thousands and thousands, and it would have been cheaper, and I would have been happier, with a N/A K20 build.

Well it is like this! I see you guys calling them junk yet your at the track running the piss out of them messing with the gas and tune and putting rods though the block!, And FYI the head gasket thing is rare and has reasons for it blowing like any other motor if they do!, People Don't service the, properly and expect them the live forever, Well Hello No they don't like any other engine if you don't change fluids properly etc etc, They are fine for 300.000 or more if you don't beat on them and use them for what they are intended for. And your talking about the parts being weak Lol. Well Peeps What do you think this thing is man a drag motor capable of big power?, It Sure seems that way!. It is a Commuter car not a drag car!. As for the Si that 200.00 Hp is from the factory and unfortunately the rubber band is as tight as she is going to go!. It is safe power and Honda knows it, So don't think by messing with the tune you are going to have good results because your not! It is Simple!, Respect it and it lasts and don't try to push it beyond it's means.. And for the Direct injection it has been around for years and the oil dilution also, especially in diesel trucks. That part is common sense, Change the oil on sooner int ravels and it will Live a long life!, The big problem here is Education on these mechanical differences. With all due respect You want one that will make power get a K20A and put good parts into it instead of trashing a little 1.5 turbo then Calling it junk on you-tube!. One thing you will Never do is make it better than it is!. Just a Old Mechanic that pays attention to the little shit and tells it like it is!. ;-).. Seeing 2 or 3 blown blocks in a fellas shop tells me one thing!, The same stupid mistake was done 2-3 times LOL cheers!

Not to mention the gearbox these car uses. The SI I understand because of the manual trans but the CVT ones with paddle shifts are bad. Like plain bad. If you hard driving it every single day, the chain on the CVT will not last till 40k miles. The thing that turns me of from buying new Honda's is the trans. I better off buy a new Chinese made car with DCT trans and be happy with it. The 3 cylinders ones with 1.5L in displacement has bigger stroke, bore, oil channel, rod studs than the Honda's. Japanese economic cars nowadays are becoming China made from the old days.
