I camped here before it became KOA and it was very nice…… If you didn’t know this, Kenny Chesney use to play gigs here when he went to ETSU. It wasn’t always a campground🍻

I was stationed in Swedesboro in 1963-64.I was a Assemble Sergent. It hard to believe all the trees and brush on both site. The mess hall was in the Radar Area.I was 20 years and calibrated each missiles guidance unit.

John, great set up but you might want to also consider carrying a folding saw, gloves and a tarp with cordage. Doesn't add that much extra weight to the backpack but compliments your fire tools, just in case.

As a senior woman age 63, ( rated moderate trail ) actually was hard for me. With the steep, rocky, unbalanced trail. I am a greiving Mother and Grandmother, I do the same trail you posted to find peace. And, search for unanswered questions. Investigation no one has hiked this in pitch darkness, wearing flip flops, no hiking gear, month ofJune, after a heavy rain, no head lights. I will continue to investigate until I take my last breath. Hike 2 heal. In loving memory of my Son and my myGrandson. .

I recommend carrying an ultralight camp trowel in the bathroom kit in case you need to make a deposit. For a "cat hole" it's recommended to dig 8 inches down and 8 inches wide and at least 200 feet from any water source. Leave your biodegradable paper in there and stir it with a stick. No need to pack waste out.

Hey! I have a reservation coming up here.. if I have an annual pass, do I need to get a vehicle registration as well to enter??
@getoutexplorewithjohn55123 ай бұрын
As far as I know, if you have a reservation you shouldn’t need a pass. Though I would check with the NPS just to be sure. Things are always changing.
@CDRDDJ2 ай бұрын
@soccweandlax1 if you mean annual pass to the national parks then you would still need a vehicle registration pass. The annual pass is jut the fee you pay to access the national park. It's completely different from the vehicle pass required. I hope that makes sense. This stuff can get confusing.
@toddwood519027 күн бұрын
This is incorrect. First, no vehicle passes are required when entering the Sun Road from the east side. Second, if you have proof of a reservation anywhere along the Sun Road corridor (campground or hotel), you do not need a vehicle pass. But you do have to have an annual pass, or pay the entry fee.
@CDRDDJ13 күн бұрын
Yes, as far as I know if it want to go pass the Apgar checkpoint to reach the west side of thr Sun road you will need a vehicle pass. But if you have a reservation for St. Mary camp then you can drive the road without the vehicle pass.

Nice video. Thank you for bringing it to us. I was a US Army veterinary technician at Fort Dix, NJ. We took care of the military working dogs( guard dogs) for Philadelphia Air Defense Command Nike Hercules sites at Swedesboro, Paulsboro, Pedricktown. We made site visits to see the dogs and the dog handlers also brought dogs to the Veterinary Service at Fort Dix. Very cool trip down memory lane. I never got to see much of the sites. We also occasionally got to help with New York Air Defense Command sites as well but they had veterinary service from another veterinary field office, like Fort Hamilton.

There was a tunnel under the calal lock after you come down the stairs. Does that go anywhere? Also , it looks like they demolished the fort on the MD Heights trail and left a big hole there.
