But no DQ or Zeros, so I guess it's good for not being able to prep anything for flying this fall season. I've been debating if flying in the fall would fit my schedule?? Last few times I flew the Nationals, fall is a really busy time frame trying to get everything done before winter arrives.

And the reason I don’t fly competition is because some birds develop later than others that turn out to be great birds. It seems the competition situation have you putting a rush on birds to start coming into the role and if they don’t, then you have to call them that sucks, hey, but everybody has their own way of dealing with their birds. Keep up the good work your birds look nice and good luck to you man! Keep the content coming👌🏾

@effortlessrollersloft965920 күн бұрын
@Birdgame1921 competition is only 3 days out of the year, 6 days if you get into the finals every time you qualify (World Cup & 2 Nationals fly; 20 bird and 11 bird). 362 days are for backyard enjoyment. The breed has a standard. It is up to every breeder to try and uphold their standards for the future. Just like if I wanted a German Shepard, I wouldn't class a Golden Retriever to have the same standards. I believe as a breeder, we gotta do our best to pass on the best traits and selection of the breed by definition, into the future.

You might be right on the scoring, but every judge is a little different, and that is unavoidable. The key is to keep flying and put up a good group of birds. And, hope scoring doesn’t get in the way of a group of people who enjoy doing just that! Nice kit.

@loupigeonstimeflies8150 I feel like, judging birds can be a simple deal that can easily be very complicated if one doesn't understand how to read a score sheet. Sometimes, ppl think the best kit is the kit that score the most. And in reality, the best kit could be a losing kit that just didn't show up day of. What’s the average flight time for rollers ?
@effortlessrollersloft96592 ай бұрын
@Rev792 it all varies on what you are feeding them and how long you want them flying. Some families will fly for 2-4 hours. Some family will depend on feed. Once you know what your family of birds react to, you will have to figure that out for yourself. During competition, you need your team to stay on the clock for at least a minimum of 15 minutes exact!! But if you're team can clear 15 minutes easy with hardwork. You have nothing to worry about.

@effortlessrollersloft96592 ай бұрын
@loupigeonstimeflies8150 this family, straight wheat will not work. You'll get them flying low and will land shortly after. My regular feed is 2 parts wheat to 1 part milo. Depending on if they are flying time, flying too high or too low I'll change it up a bit. If birds seem like they are lacking power, I'll feed them some peas. Barley is used if they are too frequent.

@user-nu5pg4xn2j when I did the cross back 2020, I bred out about 160 of these birds. I did not really expect much from them as I just wanted to fly birds. Out of the 160 birds, I did my best to select the best 20 (10 hens and 10 cocks) to move them forward. Granted, I lost a lot of really good birds flying, some I wish I could still have. When I move to my location now, I gifted out about 14-18 birds to random guys that wanted to get in the hobby. I can only wish they did something with those birds as I believe they were really great birds to fly, my wife persuaded me to keep them, and I'm glad she did. To answer your question, I have 10 hens and 9 cocks left. The goal is to breed all of them back to my pure DC birds and select those who possess the trait I want to bring back. These birds will all go back up in the air to retire. They have been proven as breeders as I bred all of them back to the Rick Mee side, and all the 2021 babies off them were really good. Living in the city and a small loft, I had to cut down and stay focused. But I sure hope to get them back and rolling soon enough.

@user-nu5pg4xn2j my location now isn't do bad. But I've only been here for 2 years, so I'm still learning the area. I am finding that I can fly from late fall through winter with no losses and no bops until the spring migration. Which is mid April through mid May. Then I get hit like 3-4x a month until July. For some reason, in July, the bops are hunting my birds super hard. Not sure if they are feeding Youngs or what, but they hunt me hard!! Then in late Aug, I'm flying with little harassment from the bops. I guess, I'm curious to see how they will do as well now that I can fly with way less losses. Time will tell how far I can take em.

What are your deepest rollers doing? I'm more into deep rollers than competition kit birds..
@effortlessrollersloft96593 ай бұрын
Deepest would be roll downs, I get a few a year. I've bred many different depths, anything from 10-200'. But I don't chase depth as most would, style is my number one when it comes to the roll. I've seen some very fast and deep birds that are A styles or axle and to me, that is just not a sight for me. Here's my order of the 4 factors of a roll: 1. Style 2. Speed 3. Frequency 4. Depth Depth to me is a factor that will vary from person to person. Some ppl like birds that drop right away, which makes them look deep. Some time their birds, which to me is the most accurate way of doing things, and lastly some try to judge depth by what they think it looks like. So, depth is at the bottom for me.

@loupigeonstimeflies8150 in the city, I've only seen them do this like once or twice only. They usually chase my birds when they are about to land only, this one like to go up and chase and do it all over again if it misses. I bet it's got some Youngs to feed somewhere near. It's desperate for sure if it's willing to go up and chase the kit in my opinion.

@effortlessrollersloft96593 ай бұрын
@jourdanRC when I'm just conditioning my birds, I'm only feeding wheat and milo. I do not feed a set mix. I usually start with 50/50 and adjust based on what the birds show me in the sky. My family of birds do horrible on straight wheat. If I do it, they'll fly low and super fast, like homing pigeons. If they are not slowing down with wheat and milo, I like to use barley once a week.
