Installed Sonoma 14.5 on MacBook Pro Early 2011 13.3 model with a dual-core Intel i5 cpu about a week ago. Overall experience has been pleasant. Newer versions of programs I want to run can now be installed and work fine on Sonoma. Only glitch so far has been Firefox froze often. So, I removed it. Overall, it is noticeably slower loading programs, especially browsers. I have 16GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD drive. It has given new life to my old MacBook Pro.

HI, many thanks for your efforts on this subject. I'm running 14.5 on Late 2013 i7 MBP Retina 16gb plus Iris graphics AND Mid 2011 MBP i7 16gb plus Radeon 4000 graphics. Both running hotter when using KZbin, about 10C. Retina fan running at 3665 rpm getting GPU temp of 63C. Any comments as to why GPU temp so much higher greatly received. ( Full internal clean on both and heatsink thermal paste changed on the retina )

I would advise using a 32 GB USB instead. The installer was a little over 16 GB, and it will fail if you are using a 16 GB.

I've updated my system to 14.5 HOWEVER after the update my external USB drive was missing from desktop and Finder. Even though it shows up on Disk Utility. I'm unable to mount or eject the drive. And reformatting it is out of the question.

I tried to install Sonoma on my MacBook Pro late 2013. It installed and then it would not log into the system. I ended up with a black screen and then it froze. I cannot get back into the system to create a Ventura installer - which was my next plan. How do I fix this problem without doing a clean install?

My iMac 27" retina worked without any problems with Sonoma 14.3 but after I have installed 14.5 I couldn't log in. The login screen was blinking and I couldn't move the mouse cursor. So, I downgraded to Sonoma 14.3 and everything is ok again.

Trying to find an alternative to windows and this looks like it's it. Everything seems easier when it comes to organization and installation of applications. It doesn't look like we have to make a cluttered mess to install things, plus very little chance of catching viruses and if I ever want Windows back or to install any Linux distro, it looks like bootcamp solves that issue. Wish I had known how awesome Mac OS is years ago. Finally ready to get away from Windows for good. Also the app store has pretty much every app imaginable that I could possibly want.

Tried 3 times and failed miserably. The instructions are great. Got to the verify section successfully and then on the intaller my computer went back to the beginning again requiring another download. Did this 3 times! Same each time. What I noticed when I did the download there was also a Moneterey option to install. I thought that this may be a required intermim step so I successfully installed Monterey using the Moneterey App . I can now do the Sonoma install from the Updates menu after a backup has completed.

Great job...till I got stock on a blue screen with the internet problem. I use an apple ethernet port but seems not working. I also can't boot anymore into my Sonoma OCLP version...it goes automatically into Window where I get stuck saying Why did my PC reststart? Point 1 - 4. which says once you are connected, select Next and update will install. typical windows somehow...it's ironic somehow. 😀

I’m at the first step where I’m downloading the open core patcher GUI app. It’s showing that it’s gonna take 22 hours to download. I’m running a late 2012 iMac running Catalina. Is this to be expected? Maybe because I’m running this computer on an external SSD drive?

Had that issue with opencore for a while. Nowadays I tend to download it directly from GitHub before updating. It will still keep saying that until you run the post install patches even if you have the latest update. Side note I’ve left or downgraded all my Intel MacBooks to Monterey as that’s the last update that really optimised for Intel. There are actually tests online showing the difference in heat and performance on the MacBook Late 2019 (just traded mine in).

I have an issue, I am new to macOS. Not sure if someone could help me. I have a 14" MBP and I want a resolution that is between 'default' and 'native'. However, apparently, those resolutions (native included) are not 'HiDPI', and I lose a lot of sharpness. Is there a solution to this? Or I just have to stick to the main 5 resolutions in Settings?

I did this today and now the bottom of my screen is scrambled or glitchy. I may have to downgrade.

I had Sonoma 14.5 for a while with opecore and it was ok, but after a while I downgraded back to the original state of my macbook pro(Big Sur). Performance is perfect again with no stutters like I had on Sonoma.

Thanks for the video! Nicely done! I am considering trying this again. A few years ago I tried it on my 2011 13" MacBook pro. I wanted to run logic and after loading the newer os (I think it was Big sur) whenever I would try to use Logic pro x it would say you are using a second party patch to use a newer OS and I could get logic to work properly, so I gave up. Wondering if people have had different results?
