To be fair, a ton of companies literally just smash together other cubes they made, or just make color variants too.

Zz orientates the edges first, while the zb method orientates it at the last f2l slot.

Oh boy it's been a while. In my opinion, V-Cube is probably doing fine. They made a smart decision by deciding to go for the normal retail market rather than the speedcubing market in the end. Speedcubing requires constant innovation, and given how long it took them to release each of their cubes, they didn't seem up to that task. The only decent off-the-shelf cubes before V-Cubes came out were actually Rubik's brand, while everything else was really cheap and awful garbage. Now V-Cube competes with them directly rather than the ultra-niche speedcube market.

I remember watching the WC2011 livestream in real time, and refuse to acknowledge that that was over 12 years ago. It was definitely a shock/upset for many to see Feliks come in 3rd for 3x3, but he absolutely destroyed 5x5.

Direct qualification = you automatically got to compete in round 1 at that event if you ever had an official time/average on record at a previous competition. Qualification round = an initial round at the competition to make (qualify for) the cut-off time limit to make it into the first round. Any time in the qualification round at that event would still count officially in the WCA database, but might not be good enough to progress to the first round. Example: I was in the qualification round at US Nationals 2009. My previous best WCA 3x3 average was crappy enough that I was placed in the qualification round instead of round 1, but my performance in the qualification round was good enough to land me in round 1. So, at WC 2009 in 4x4 event, 1:15 at a previous event would automatically allow you to skip the qualification round and you would start from round 1. To qualify for round 1 (while already at WCA but lacking a previous PR better than 1:45), you would have needed better than 1:45 average to progress to round 1. Source: I started cubing in 2003.

Im thinking, if a non rubiks cube is used to beat Minh Thai's time, then his time wasn't beat. You cant match up a speed cube against a real Rubik's cube the same way you dont put a light weight fighter in the ring with a heavy weight fighter. Using a Non Rubiks cube is too much of an advantage. There needs to be 2 classes. Real Rubik's cubes in one class and all others in the second class.
