I just heard of incoming storm to Ireland. Please stay safe or move to a safe place to ride it out if it will effect you.

I'm off grid too and with the torrential rain I have water coming through the walls and a river flowing past my driveway which wasn't there before so I feel your pain.

Offgrid living is the ultimate selfish f-you to the rest of the world. We need to stop fetishizing this selfish individualism and build sustainable communities.

Can you concentrate on one thing of priority. Someplace dry, warm, proper electric. Just somewhere to go to recharge. Seems like your spread to thin.

I live in cold NW corner of Iowa, (USA). Something always goes wrong in cold weather. The I count down how many days until Spring lol It will warm up soon, remind yourself of that!! I'm a new sub. Enjoying your honest content ❤

I will never understand how people romanticize how much work this is. And no tools to even do the work.

Carry a bottle of water to pour down next to your boots, in the mud to help break the suction. Wiggle boots loose. Free the boots lol

Hi I've lived in a porta cabin for18 years and adapted to the winter good and bad I run my lights off a 12volte battery which I charge with a solar generator I've have a 12 volte strip light about 16inch long it lights my sitting room up fairly bright I also have a wood burner in my cabin I was thinking the room you have with the fire if was closed off from other rooms you could light it and keep warm my water used to freeze in the winter at below temps so I built a wooden box around the sores of it then the pipe I made some wooden trunking and insulated the pipe from the cold I put a parifin heater in the box around the sores of the water so it didn't freeze making sure there was no gapes in the box so that the heate didn't escape and rearly have any problems with it the wire is atached to the battery with crocodile clipes hope I haven't crossed the line with this comment best of luck

As someone that's very much had to rough it to chase their dream, I feel you!! Some weeks are just shit and the dream seems such a long way off at times doesn't it? Give yourselves the grace to be overwhelmed, far better that than to have chosen a path in life that perpetually underwhelms you! Just keep doing what you can when you can, any task completed is one off the list, that and the 🐝jokes will surely help get you through this one, nearly over, winter! 😆 Best wishes xx

Your Gas regulator on your gas bottle probably froze closed, defrost it with a hot water bottle & put some lagging\insulation on it while the hot water bottle is still hot. Get a rubber chicken for the ponies.

Hi I just came across your channel today, what county have you moved to? It was a very bad artic blast and cheer up there is a storm on the way, the scenery where you are is fabulous and when Spring and Summer comes it will be heaven, stay strong.

Another comment from me, wishing you and all of us in West Cork (and elsewhere) all the best for the upcoming beast of a storm, "probably among the severest Ireland ever seen" . Thinking of you in your caravan and mobile home, perhaps you should seek shelter in your house or at neighbours. My house is very exposed, of course it survived storm Ophelia in 2017 and a horrific storm in 2014, but watching and hearing those gusts isn't fun. Bless you!

Love your channel :) Encountered many similar problems after moving into an old house in Scotland (our water buckets froze all the way through though, solid ice 😂). Currently looking into mud tiles for our mud bath paddock/trail problem, they look like a very good solution, and they let the grass come through. We also very quickly got a quad to haul weights from one end of the land to the other.

Invest in a 4x4 quad bike with a trailer for those narrow trails.

I live on the east coast of Ireland and we experienced the same rain and then the deep freeze. You need to invest in a proper portable generator. I know it's dear, but there's Pramac ones for around the €800 + Vat mark, which will run a house. Pramac do smaller ones too but the local machinery hire company swaers by the first one i mentioned

Lol. We were also caught unaware with the cold that hit so suddenly. We were snowed in for 10 days. And living in rural Ireland, no-one was going to come grit out roads, so literally stuck here for 10 days, running out of food and supplies. And another cold front hitting the end of the week. Hopefully not snow again. I can imagine how tough it's been for you guys. Keep going, and lets hope this is your ONLY winter outside your cozy cottage.

Definitely un-ideal! To have an extended period of serious sub zero temperatures is rare. It seems like there should be a ditch on the uphill side of the lane to take the water towards the rapids. Even if you put a drain across the top of the bank behind the cottage, that's a lot of water to take across your land. It helps when a kind neighbour like Michael calls in with stories and gifts.

I’ve lived through this and it’s tough. The electricity supply wasn’t sufficient and would trip, throwing out my internet just like yours. I took as many things off the electricity as possible, including purchasing a butane gas fridge freezer. A large bottle of gas connected to the fridge lasted a month in summer and 2-3 months in winter.

new viewer....love Ireland, love the people, love the vibe. Plant Rhubarb, like asparagus, once planted will give savory stalks for your lifetime. sweet and savory applications. And since you are in Ireland, search Ballamaloe House, Darina Allen....Rhubarb Ginger Jam....to save freezer space, start canning and preserving. Charge ahead friends.

You three are a real role model for how to handle things when they go wrong. I wonder if the filming proces somehow helps you to get a birds view on things while preventing you from getting dragged down. (no idea if this sentence makes sense to you, as I’m not a native English speaker). My boyfriend and I travel a lot and did a round the world trip for 14 months in 2010/11. We still remember lots of things from this trip, but the most present ones are the experiences when something went wrong but we overcame it. These are the funniest stories we still tell people. So keep smiling and always remember - “only one winter”

Would put sleeper steps up to the chicken and veg, they only have to be about a meter apart and it would make your trek up there easier.
