Hey girl I’m late to the party but I’ve been in the OR for 4 months and I absolutely dislike it so much. I dread always having to walk on egg shells with staff and surgeons, being rushed. I’m actively looking for new jobs ❤

I've been a surgical tech for 30+ years and a OR Nurse for 2 years and COMPLETELY understand. This is why I became a Nurse , so I can have different work options. OR is tough, and I find it's getting worse over time. Hospitals are not putting enough resources into the biggest money maker in these facilities, and it creates a toxic and hostile work environment for the patient ( who are unaware of this and the staff as a whole. ) Poor management causes good people to leave, and the one who stay become cynical and give up hope. If a nurse, particularly someone new to the OR is not sure during the count I would always repeat and show what I have to give peace of mind and we can be on the same page. You did the right thing MOVE ON.

Back when I started as a CNA. The nurse that was assigned to my unit made the assignments. So, essentially the nurse is the Supervisor and delegated what she needed of me to complete. There was no back talk, walking away as she/he spoke. There was a report off to us CNA’s. The sassiness did not exist when a nurse delegates. It’s taught to CNA’s what’s to be expected. In todays world just as you mentioned. The tug of war with aides is insane. A LOT of lip service and could care less about getting the things you’ve asked done. When I was a aid we would get written up. I work in LTC and it’s just as crazy.

The OR has its days. But it's HIGHLY STRESSFUL most times. If you're in a surgery clinic you can be pushing out 40 to 90 patients a day and stay longer than your shift hours. Hospital OR is more stable hours longer and complex cases but the stakes are higher, and you do on call and you circulate and scrub. Im an OR charge nurse for 10 years

I’m watching this video after the fact of watching the one where you said you left the OR. So when the question came up about how to deal with disgruntled surgeons, I was trying to figure out if it was ok to ask them if they had such surgeons there. 😂 Like, why is that a question to me and you’re not dealing with them? It’s called professional conduct, and when you’re asking me such questions, it leads me to believe you permit such behavior. It wasn’t the typical how do deal with conflict when it comes to another coworker. She said DISGRUNTLED. 😂 That’s beyond conflict

I literally watched this months ago when I couldn't decide between OR and endoscopy. I chose OR. Today I called endoscopy because I really regret choosing the OR. I literally had a panic attack today due to the toxicity in the OR. Everyone in endoscopy seemed so happy and I can't wait to transfer! I wish I had not wasted my time with OR. However, I will now be even more eternally grateful. No job is worth your mental health!

Hi, I decided to move to the Endo department after two weeks of orientation in the OR at the new hospital. The reason why I transfer to Endo exactly the same as what you said..(Shift and employee attitude issues and so on) However, I have 10 years of experience in the OR(even it’s not in the US, back in my country), so I'm worried if I can adapt well in Endo. You know, the OR nurses usually don't do IV. Is there a huge gap between Endo work and OR work? I’d like to hear your experience. Is the endo job less stressful than the OR? And is it possible for Endo to work three days a week for 36 hours? I'll wait for your comments! Thank you.

Hi thank you for this video!! I actually just had a interview today for endoscopy inpatient. It's a whole surgical service so pre/post, same day surgery, PACU and you cross train in all of them. I shadow next week so I'll see how it goes. I applied for part time position so 3 8s on call weekend every 6 weeks and on call nights 5 days every 6 weeks rotation so im not sure to be honest with you. Any advice would be great!! Thanks you !

Hi Ashley! Congrats on the new position. Don't worry too much about it. You will get plenty of experience with them in endo lol. I would just look up common findings so you have an idea of what you're talking about when educating the patients.(i.e Diverticulosis, hiatal hernia, polyps, barretts esophagus etc) Good luck!

@@rajushahi you wont look stupid! Everyone is new at some point. You mainly need to know what colonoscopies and EGD's are. You should at the very least google what they are. They will teach you IV placement if you don't have that experience. Good luck!

@luvnurseb5552 Thank you sister, your advice means a lot, as I worked in ward for 2 years, I think they have high expectations from me especially cannulation but I didn't come across many cannulations as the outreach, ward doctors and CVAD used to do difficult Cannulation, this is where my insecurity has come from.

My only complaint or downfall is going from working 3 twelve hour days a week to 5 eight hour days a week but if you are lucky you can find some GI places that offer 4 ten hour shifts. So you have a day off a week. Right now I’m actually interviewing for a PRN job so even better for flexibility of schedule.
