I literally watched this months ago when I couldn't decide between OR and endoscopy. I chose OR. Today I called endoscopy because I really regret choosing the OR. I literally had a panic attack today due to the toxicity in the OR. Everyone in endoscopy seemed so happy and I can't wait to transfer! I wish I had not wasted my time with OR. However, I will now be even more eternally grateful. No job is worth your mental health!

@@sofiag3989 @Sofia G hi Sofia! Honestly, I love it. During my clinicals I'm the program I never felt like I any unit called to me and I was left feeling very lost after graduating. I was offered my first job in outpatient nursing, and I finally feel like I found a place that's right for me. Consistent 12-hour shifts three days a week, M/T/Th. I have become skilled with IVs and understand have a better understanding of pre/post anesthesia care. Patient are nice because they aren't in emergent pain and are generally stable. The nurses, doctors, CRNAs and MAs have become good friends and I just can't say enough good about it. I think it's a great place to start in nursing if you're able to find a job at one. I'm still considering working at the hospital someday, but at the moment I'm pretty content where I'm at.

@@blakelynashley it was great! I worked there for about a year, but transitioned to the hospital, and now am doing school nursing! A lot has happened recently. Endoscopy nursing was great, I loved the speed and getting the chance to become an IV starting master! There isn't much clinical skill to use either than that, don't really need to assess or perform any nursing procedures, just make sure the patient is safe and prepped to go into the procedure, and fully recovers when they come out. I highly recommend trying it if you're even a little interested.

Hi Maya! I would definitely say it's more common to be hired in inpatient endo as a new grad. Outpatient centers are small, and usually have older nurses that have like 10 plus yrs of experience. When I had my interview for outpatient, the manager literally told me she would never hire a new grad. Even though its relatively easy work, you still should be experienced in what to do in an emergency, knowledge of medications, iv skills, etc. Outpatient centers are not the place to learn these things for the first time. I personally wouldnt get into endo as a new grad. I think its better to kind of get those foundational nursing assessment skills, that you would get working med surg or ICU. After that, you can take those skills to any other specialty, and transition to an easy RN position like I did. Hope that makes sense. Again, this is all just my opinion. Do what your heart desires 🙂 Thanks for watching!

Even the surgeons I worked for had called me idiot brainless I was cursed out in my couple years it's a toxic relationship. Hi Angelica..so when I had my endo interview,the manager really didnt ask me any questions. She just gave me a tour and discussed the position. Just like with any interview, you should be informed of what it entails, so I would say to make sure you know what EGD, colonoscopies, & flex sigmoidoscopies are. If you are interviewing for an inpatient endo position, you can also look up the more advanced procedures like EBUS and ERCP's. You don't have to know details, but just a general idea of what they are. Be ready to provide an example of how you handles a patient emergency, and how you would deal with a disgruntled surgeon. Hope this helps!

@luvnurseb5552
@luvnurseb5552 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Tami. Kudos to you for being able to endure such a demanding unit for 24 yrs!! Endo is no where near as physically demanding as your previous unit. Propofol is the main medication administered so the patients wake up pretty quickly and usually do not have any pain or nausea. So you pretty much just wait for them to wake up, monitor vitals, and send them on their way! I never had to lift any patients while working endo. As mentioned in video, I did outpatient endo so most of the patients were just coming in for routine colon screenings or egd's for gi symptoms. The # of patients varies based on how busy the place is but I would usually have about 10 patients a day during an 8 hr shift. You dont have 10 all at once...usually about 2 at a time. I think it would be a good fit for you. If it still ends up being too physically demanding, you can see if they will let you do light duty like doing post op calls, getting charts together etc. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!

Hi there! I was honest...I told her that it wasnt a right fit. It wasnt what I thought it was going to be and I didnt like scrubbing. She was very understanding. Good luck with your interview!
