I wished I watched this video before. I was using the snac adapter directly without the level shifter, I didn't use it a lot but I wonder if I damaged the board doing that

Cost of parts for a complete unit is about $65. If you buy a pre-packaged kit, they are $100-$125.

As person who has made a ton of such integrations on various consoles and DIY projects, hands down to what you have created here. I really appreciate all the work you've put into this creation. Excellent tutorial video, too. Instant sub from me.

Good video! Another thing to remember is that many more people use software emulators and therefore more bug reports are sent to the developers, who can fix them. Even if theoretically an FPGA should have higher compatibility, the best software emulator is always better than the best fpga for the respective system because of that. That's my experience at least.

Is there any chance on the v2 case that you could use brass inserts for holding the screws in place?
@СергейЛукьяненко-ш6ьКүн бұрын
Why couldn't the I/O board have two serial ports so that two players could play, for example? What's the problem with regular snacs that only exist for the Playstation 1 with an input for two controllers and a light gun. Why don't other snac adapters do this? There would be no need for this blister

Hey, this is really amazing! I was wondering if you've considered using a more readily-available SNES-like USB gamepad (such as the Buffalo ones) for the build instead of an original? Having to use oldstock is a bit unfortunate, not to mention the extra steps with the microcontroller.

The link to the machine vise is corrupted, instead of thingiverse you put thingverse which is a phishing website. Other than that good job mate great work

This is a touch too technical for me but I'm just here to comment that I loved watching you build your own Handheld MiSTer. I really look forward to your next video on your Handheld MiSTer Model 2! P.S. For your future build, is there anyway to create a Handheld MiSTer dock similar to Steam Deck docks and then somehow make the Handheld MiSTer do TV out? 🙄

Does anyone know if MiSTer supports RetroAchievements ?

There is making something work, and then there is making something that works. This is amazing CAD and design work, Ken. I am more interested in making this just because of your case/inserts than I am to have a portable MiSTer, lol. This is a seriously well designed handheld and the execution of build is spot on. I know it is rev 1, and it will be built upon, but like I said in my last comment (previous video). This is the one that is starting it all!

is it possible for the FPGA board to change into ARM architecture instead? given android can run on arm while providing emulators for games, and perhaps more energy efficient than x86 with linux or windows
@Cicirifu2 күн бұрын
? The FPGA board already uses an ARM hardprocessor. Do you mean get rid of the FPGA entirely? That would defy the entire point now wouldnt it?
@Cicirifu2 күн бұрын
Regarding the charging dropout, it sounds like you need a board with proper power path management.
@docwhogr2 күн бұрын
just wondering, is fpga emulation more power efficient than software emulation or the opposite?
@Cicirifu2 күн бұрын
It depends, really. This build isn't using a terribly power efficient FPGA. So if you can accept some inaccuracy from software emulation you'll get way more efficiency out of retro handheld emulators. Could someone make this with a more efficient FPGA? Definitely.

the board is sold out. Is there any similar clone we could potentially buy instead?
@Cicirifu2 күн бұрын
Nope. It relies on the built-in SDRAM thats on the QMTech board.

this is so cool. I only load a handful of games on the MiSTer, this would be much less annoying than going through the menu each time. The keyboard function is cool too. Love the idea of making a card for a credit insert.

I'd pick the QMtech one. You can buy one right now. De10 one is discontinued and likely marked up in price as a result, and the Mister Pi which sounds like a Raspberry Pi, is almost never in stock. Which leaves you with the QMtech one as the only logical option. It's cheaper and readily available.
