Hiya Ken! Thanks for covering my mini console MiSTer case!

Can't wait til dedicated mister systems are one day manufactured. I know emulation has become almost 1 to 1 with original hardware but, who doesn't want a MISTER? Great work on this video. 👍🏾💯

Sure LGR would appreciate the clicky power switch! Great project, really tidy and nicely detailed video

Wow, moving the ports around is a great idea. Super cool build, nicely done! (This also reminds me I need to get that N64 beta on my Mister)

The front-facing ports make a big difference, I think - Todd did a great job with the design

Thanks for sharing. I just finished following your example and built my own mister mini console. Desoldering for the first time ever was a learning experience the glue they put on that USB hub wasn't fun.

Nice - I hope you're enjoying it! Todd just recently released a keyboard case as well, so I'm thinking it's about time for a transplant for mine :D

Great build ! Thanks for showing it to us. I might have to mod my mister!

My only improvement suggestion would be to smooth out the shell and buttons. They all have that tell-tale sign of a 3D print: the layer lines.

It's great ,but can be do other game console with other board?

Hey Ken, no nausea this time! Thanks! 🙏 Another great video too. 👍 Would you consider a workshop tour video? Would be very interested. 👍
@whatskenmaking11 ай бұрын
Great, I definitely was trying to be conscious of that this time 😊 Re: workshop tour, it’s something I’ll definitely consider. I actually have 2 workshops - the one you see in the videos is where I do all of my electronics work, but I also have a detached wood shop that I haven’t really showed on camera yet. I feel like both are in a constant state of flux, but I’ll think about what a tour of one or both spaces might look like. Thanks for the suggestion!

I guess my only concerns might be enough power for the USB ports, and lack of access to the ethernet port? I may have to look at the larger case.
@whatskenmaking10 ай бұрын
I haven't yet seen any USB power issues, but I'm also usually just playing with one controller. Ethernet port access is something I've heard others mention as a disadvantage as well. In my case, I'm fine using the wireless dongle - but faster network copying would be nice

I’m building one of these right now! My 3D print is arriving tomorrow. Do you have a link for the Digikey switch? There’s 4,281 of them on Digikey and would be super helpful to have a link. Did I miss it in your description?

I want to see either a MiSTer or raspberry pi build that can take original game cartridges. I don’t mean just dumping the rom I mean actually playing the cartridge
@Slamy409611 ай бұрын
8:05 This confused me a bit. You do have a fan but no passive cooler? This might reduce the effectiveness of the fan.
@whatskenmaking11 ай бұрын
Yeah, you’re right - I definitely should have a heat sink on there
@phillai11 ай бұрын
Amazing video as always Ken! 👍 I couldn't quite see but does your MiSTer Mini support ethernet, SNAC and MT32-Pi?
@whatskenmaking11 ай бұрын
Thanks! It does support SNAC and MT32-Pi (via the SNAC port - it uses the IO board from the stack), but ethernet is not ported to back to the case. If you want something that supports ethernet, Todd’s full sized version does have an rj45 connector ported out - www.printables.com/model/545650-mister-fpga-full-size-console-case
@SherringtonBun10 ай бұрын
You can run it without a heatsink and just a fan?
@whatskenmaking10 ай бұрын
You really should have a heatsink - I forgot to put mine back on after taking it off to video the board a while back :)
@MegaManNeo11 ай бұрын
The MiSTer looks like an even uglier abomination of what the Raspberry Pi looks like with everything attached. To 3D print your own case and add some plugs and switches was the best thing you could do to make it look nice.

Why. PETG instead of PLA?
@whatskenmaking10 ай бұрын
Mainly because I've found PETG to be less brittle and less susceptible to warping at higher temperatures than PLA over time. For this print, it doesn't really matter much, but I've changed my default to PETG a while ago and haven't really looked back. I also like the textured finish from the build plate on flat surfaces like this, and PLA doesn't adhere well to the textured plate.

I noticed you didn't walk in Mario 64, does the N64 beta have issues with the sensitivity of the analogue stick? Unrelated to the subject of the video I know lol
@AdrianDX11 ай бұрын
No isssues. My guess is it might have to do with whatever controller was being used.
@gcolombelli11 ай бұрын
No issues for me either, usually USB controllers give a +/-127 range on the analog sticks but the N64 core maps them to +/-85 to avoid sensitivity issues. You can walk very slowly on Mario 64 just fine.
@whatskenmaking11 ай бұрын
Yep, no issues walking - I was just being heavy-thumbed while playing the game. I was using a Hyperkin USB adapter, and it had some other issues with certain buttons not working, but I haven’t spent too much time troubleshooting it. I need to take the time to build an N64 SNAC anyway
